Iv'e noticed a huge increase in the ping rate of the other gamers that use my server when someone is trying to join. Is there any way of stopping this short of limiting the max player count to something like 4. Please help!

I'm assuming this is for Counter-Strike(since it's the only mod I know of that does that)?

this mainly happens if you run a listenserver (i.e. you run the server, and play on it at the same time)

Try running dedicated and see what happens.
