DM is a programming language for the creation of multi-user worlds. By `world' I mean a virtual multi-media environment where people assume personae through which they interact with one another and computer-controlled objects.
It is a good engine that is easy to learn and understand, however it comes with certain issues one can expect from such an 'old' engine. Performance-wise the engine performs great and most issues can be completely worked around if done properly.
Overall, the engine is great to work with. It provides everything that is needed to make a game, both server side and client side. It uses a simple to use programming language that can also be used in fairly complex ways, making it fairly robust, and great for newer programmers. It is not without downsides, but this should rarely be a concern. If you want to jump into game programming, Dream Maker is an excellent place to go.
I've worked with this system for nearly 2 years now and I rather enjoy it. It's simple to get started, yet provides enough freedom and power to do nearly anything I have tried to accomplish thus far.
