A submod of 'Europe Ancient' which further polishes the RTW style and adds four new factions + a new, huge and detailed, 200 region, 'Mundus Magnus'-style campaign map stretching all the way to the Hindu Kush heavily edited from Razor's original from 'Fall of Rome'. More factions might be added later, like the Sarmatians and Bactria.
Hey everyone, I've just uploaded the Google Drive of my Europe Ancient submod named Urbgen's RTW-on-M2TW: Deluxe. It's got a different mod-folder name from Europe Ancient so you can keep both!
Installation: just plop the modfolder into your 'mods' folder and play it like any other mod!
Changelog:
- 4 new factions (Belgae, Cimbrians, Nabatea, Cimmeria) with their own unique units, info pics, descriptions, win conditions, religious buildings, etc... Credits must go to Valyrian Legionnaire for providing textures based on my requests!
- Separate UI for all cultures, something RTW Vanilla never had!
- A 'Provincial Campaign' which is set on a truly HUGE map of the Old World stretching all the way to Barbarikon (modern-day Karachi, Pakistan), fully populated and boasting 200 settlements.
Credit must go to Razor who crafted the map for a 4th century AD start, but I redid tons of settlements to fit 270BC.
- Yes/No event to remove the new factions if you want the vanilla experience (I also streamlined the Unite Rome and Remove Persia scripts)
- Made the menu even more RTW with a bunch of details and changes (finished my work from the main mod)
- made the Cimbrians the first RTW faction ever to be able to horde (as that is what they did historically) and also sneakily made the famously nomadic Scythians a horde faction.
- removed Vanilla M2TW custom battle locations and put in a bunch of classic RTW locations
- removed the Americas and added a bunch of cool regions to accommodate the new factions (but also just the Canary Islands cause why the hell not?)
- corrected a bunch of region/sett/character names that the original devs of RTW just got wrong but did my best to keep the classic vanilla naming style
- removed Modern Welsh first names from the Celtic factions (sigh) and added in more Latinized Celtic names - added a bunch of original surnames for the new factions. Don't worry, the vanilla style is preserved
- Totally redid Dacian, Thracian and Scythian names and surnames as they were very lazily done by CA in 2004 :) Dacians and Scythians have tribal surnames while Thracians can have placename and tribal surnames.
- made missiles a bit longer distance and increased morale a bit for slightly more strategic battles
- added Neapolis Scythica in Crimea, as it was the capital of the Scythians in the region, corrected 'Mediolanium', moved Aiacium to Aleria on the other side of Corsica, moved Tara to Eblana.
- corrected the Macedonian royal family and gave Bylazora to the Thracians, while Campus Getae becomes rebel-owned. This because the Getae were more aligned with the Dacians, culturally, while the Thracians were more south-westernly oriented than RTW makes out.
- redid event pics
Thanks to Valyrian Legionnaire for his awesome mod combining my two favourite games!
Am I doing something wrong with unpacking the zip file? I unpack it so it's a stand alone mod and mod merged with the original, but when loading up the mod there is nothing new or changed
no need to merge it, its independed sub-mod, it can work without Europe Ancient.
Yeah that is what I have done, but launching this mod has everything exactly the same as the Europe Ancient mod, no new factions that are mentioned in the changelog
yeh, seems it have one little bug i will tell about it to Urbgen
to fix it open RTW_Deluxe.cfg with notepad, and change this line mod = mods/europe_ancient to mod = mods/RTW_Deluxe and all will be fine
Thanks! Working fine now, but one problem, Cimbrians don't seem to be able to build ships even though it says they have access to them. And their capital is a Town with a port (Large Town only) so could that be causing problems too?
The cfg file will be fixed in the next upload, but it seems I forgot about giving the Cimbrians ships :)
Every mission that had the reward "you will receive some of your best units" always gave me ships, every time, it was the only way of having any form of sea travel haha
Dumatha in Arabia can't be attacked, is this intentional or a map bug?
in Europe Ancient, you not meant to take that regions, probably Urbgen didn't change it
I'm on it!
Excellent submod! The addition of new barbarians and the Arabs help to flesh out the map a bit more, but one small issue; Illyrian Hoplites now appear invisible on the battle map.
Hey thans!
I also have that problem but the battlemodel_db entry is sound and there should be no reason to suspect the textures... In any case, the Illyrians are a Europe Ancient addition, and not mine.
Hmm, honestly I thought it was the texture at first too but apparently even in the base mod they don’t have an actual texture file. My guess is that the mercenary hoplites and they share the Same file, so I should copy the mercenary hoplite file to add to Illyria, just to try
open battle_models.modeldb file and change 860 at the top to 861 and problem will dissapear
Thank you very much!
Just updated the file with the fixes
Sorry for the dumb question, but this mod adds the Greco-Scythian kingdom of Bosporus, right? Also, thanks for your contribution to the community and specially to the Europa Ancient mod :3
Yep, and Cimbri, Belgae and Nabatea
Not sure if it's this sub mod, or the Europe Ancient mod itself, but the Barbarian faction Axemen don't have a picture in their main detail scroll
Ok it seems it could just be the Cimmbri Axemen without an image. Also the tier 1 towers (maybe stronger too) don't seem to work in sieges for Cimmbri on defense
If you want to fix the unit info pic you can find it in data/ui/unit_info/ximbroz/germans_axemen_info.tga and change its name to german_axe_warband_info.tga
Thanks for letting me know! I'll add it.
Wait a minute... You're the guy from the Insularis Draco mod! Dude, love that mod, and it's good to see you working on this one as well.
Now I can't help but ask, any plans on adding chariots from your mod? At least for my Britannia guys? Can't expect Boudicca to fight the romans without chariots, right? lol
Yup, that's me. But so far my attempts at importing DBM's anims have been unsuccessful. But if so I'll implement them as fast as I can.
The game crashes after running it. it only shows the opening picture and thats it
what can I do?
I hope we get a faction_banner_x_trans for the newly added factions; at the minute I cannot tell when they are retreating from a distance as their flags won’t turn white.
Awesome mod, thanks for sharing it with us
Hey guys, I just uploaded an improved version of the submod but with a huge new campaign map that took a full month's work to populate! Enjooooooy!
Great job for making this submod, however there are some things that are not working properly : none of your 4 new factions have voice lines on the campaign map, everyone is just silent, and in battle when the units rout the flag above the unit doesnt switch to "white flag" thus its impossible to know when the units are routing
I think those 2 things are easy to fix so i just wanted to report :D
Honestly the flags a bigger issue for me; maybe it can be done like Vanillia beyond where they just turn white instead of flashing if it’s easier.
Nice submod ! But just like in the main mod there isn't a family tree for armenia (the "relatives" lines are missing in descr_scrat" so nobody is linked to anyone in the tree)
game keeps crashing! pls help
