Originally I began modding a wonderful old mod called THERA, to make it function better and look better.

To facilitate I did a vast amount changes, adjustments, tweaks and improvements.

THERA is long since defunct, its creator disappearing from the internet realm years ago.
His legacy: THERA is a fantastic creation but suffered from reliance on very old, vanilla style units and was riddled with dodgy med2 bugs (especially animations).

I made this purely for myself but such was the ongoing interest in a resurrected THERA that I eventually made it available for select people via direct link. Now I make it available for whomever wants it here on MODDB.

I get a crash on startup with the error window saying Medieval 2 encountered an unspecified error and needs to close. Here is my crash log generated with the level = *script* trace setting: Pastebin.com

Latest base Thera loads correctly, as does Third Age with the PCP submod installed.

How to let the game centered because the mod screen is to the right of the PC screen?
I increased the resolution, but it looks pretty bad in the same way.

I say:
Black stripes on the sides do not appear ... and the game continues in the corner of the computer screen

Some setting is off somewhere. This doesn't happen to others though so it's on your side. Sounds like your describing it as running in a windowed view, rather than the usual full screen.

Seems this most likely to appear when playing on a laptop.

TO FIX:

Go to your Thera.cfg in your Thera mod folder.

Change the lines:

## run game in windowed mode
windowed 1
to
## run game in windowed mode
windowed 0

and

borderless_window = 1
to
borderless_window = 0

save the file and play.

OK... So do I run the 4gb patch before I install patch 3 or do I install patch 3 then run the 4gb patch? I installed patch 3 before I installed the 4gb patch and the game started up fine, and it got to the loading screen but then CTD with the standard "Medieval 2 encountered an unspecified error" message. I really want to play this mod so if anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated.

Start with a fresh vanilla MED2 with Kingdoms.

Install main mod, install patch 3 (follow the install instructions to the letter)

Run the 4gb patch on both med2.exe and kingdoms.exe.

Play

Hi, does dropping the patch into main med2 folder alter anything for other mods? I had a mod that required patch to be dropped into med2 and overwrite. I did this and it effected all my other mods in a bad way. Worried this will do the same.

No. It will overwrite Thera only.

If you look inside the V4 folder you'll see what I mean.

This is okay but some changes are not for the better. This sub-mod makes the game much easier, which is not good as it was already too easy to steam roll through Thera. Within the first 10 turns I am making a few thousand income, Building a new building in every settlement at all times, fielding multiple full stack armies while having 5-10 free upkeep units per settlement, unit costs are so incredibly cheap across the board offering little reason to ever use lower tier troops. A Tier 1 swordsman only cost 20-50 less then the tiers above. Most units are available to recruit on turn 1, This completely removes the feeling of advancing the nation and instead feels like you are assuming control of some super power on turn 1. My catapult would not attack the wooden gates of a town no matter how it was positioned. Catapults are so insanely OP, both the amount of ammo a unit has and the amount of damage is just stupid. With 1 catapult unit I destroyed the city gates, two Towers and smashed three holes into the stone wall. With catapults being this powerful I dread to see what you have done to cannons. One shot wall down? Also why remove family trees for some factions? And did you remove the non aggression pact option in diplomacy?
Also during install I noticed your TheraV4 folder has a mod folder within it, that folder has a Therav4 folder in that.. this a mistake?

Dnt mean to be negative. Overall the new units are great and im sure there is more good to discover. i will put some more time in on the mod. Any new addition to Thera is a welcome change, thnx for your work developing this

Thanks for the feedback.

It is indeed meant to feel like you are taking over a powerful faction as this is what I like. They are countless mods out there where you start with next to nothing, which never made sense to me, this mod offers something different in that regard. Why try to early steamroll? The AI factions are AI factions, give the AI a chance to get going. They do get economy boosts to ensure they develop at a reasonable rate.

As to income, it is very difficult to balance such for so many factions. Regarding this, I did not intend to create yet another economical poverty mod. For this mod I want the economy to come second place to launching campaigns. I did however attempt to counter this by hugely reducing the speed of recruitment of troops and the respawning speed of mercenaries. This means armies still take time and effort to gather. I will look into this with an eye to reduce income, but it seems you want something different from me in this regard.

As to catapults, this is interesting and I have not picked up on this. I will investigate. It could be a case of accuracy as this was boosted for them to counter the AI repeatedly failing to hit anything with them.
As the AI does not differentiate between a cannon and a catapult ALL siege weapons have to be able to create a breach, or they will bring them to pointlessly pound wall then do nothing when the ammo runs out. I will look to lessen the effect of pre-gunpowder siege weapons however they will still need to be capable of breaching.

Family trees were removed to remedy somewhat the vanilla bug that caused full faction collapse after family members died of which is the Teutonic system is less affected (check TWC forums for info). Certain factions were especially prone to this. However, this is no longer necessary as I am bringing in a simple script that spawns a new family member general with some troops near each factions capital in the event of a lack of family members. This will mean no more total early collapse of powerful factions. And that will mean the return of family trees for all factions.

That extra folder is indeed not meant to be there, it is a random copy, it does not however cause any issues with the mod and is tiny, so I am not uploading the entire mod again for the sake of this.

I am working on a new patch that will include a bunch of new unit models, a fix for the family member issue and a fix for the horde issue among other things, likely an adjustment to siege weaponry power on walls too (subject to investigation).

Cheers

I guess I just don't know what starts the game. I don't know what run thera means .My problem is I don't know if I'm properly installing it. When I click on the lauch link all it does is launch medieval II total war. I guess I just do better if I have a video to follow. People say it is easy but I'm just stuck. I know its supposed to be easy but I get stuck. Could you maybe list what files are needed to launch it effectively? I don't know if i'm following step 5 effectievly. I'm sorry to bug you.

1.Install main mod. -FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS ON THE FILES POST.. Install Thera:Redux main mod download by extracting the downloaded zip, open the folder that extracts and move the Therav4 folder into your Medieval II Total War\mods folder.
So it should show as Medieval II Total War\mods\theraV4... Inside that theraV4 you should be seeing a bunch of folders and text files.)

2.Install PATCH FIX 3. -FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS ON THE FILES POST.. (Extract the downloaded zip, open the extracted folder and Drop the Patch 3 'mods' folder into your Medieval II Total War root folder (NOT the Thera mod folder) and overwrite all, or place files into correct folders individually.
If it doesn't prompt to merge and then to overwrite files, you haven't put it in the correct place and the patch won't be installed)

3. Run 4gb ram patch on both kingdoms.exe and medieval.exe

4. Run theraV4.bat to play game.

From then on you only need to run the Therav4.bat to play, you can make a shortcut of this bat file for your desktop.

Hello how do I fix the last two files of this mod. Somehow I accidently changed what these files were originally. I am sorry it was my own fault that this mod wont work. The backup file and cfg file were changed and I don't know how to fix them. Would you be kind enough to make a fresh download file. If not then maybe sometips on how to fix those files. I follow the directions for it but because I accidently changed those files all it says is medieval two suffered an error.

What?

Just get whatever files from the zip file you downloaded and stick them in. If you keep getting issues, just delete it and reinstall.

MAIN INSTALL:
Install Thera:Redux main mod download by extracting the dl, open the folder and put the Therav4 folder in your Medieval II Total War\mods folder.

PATCH INSTALL:
Drop PATCH 3 'mods' folder into your Medieval II Total War ROOT folder (NOT the Thera mod folder) and overwrite all, or place files into correct folders individually

If the patch drop doesn't prompt to merge and then to overwrite files, you haven't put it in the correct place.

So make sure you are putting the extracted main mod into your Medieval II Total War\MODS folder, not the main Medieval II Total War folder, then the Patch into Medieval II Total War ROOT folder (not the MODS folder).

Then do the 4gb ram on exes, and that really all there is to it.

If you want to screenshot progression or capture stream what your doing I'll take a look.
