This is the latest Finish Defence Forces modification, from an elite group of programmers from Finland, including Kegetys - the man behind DXDLL - the addon responsible for bringing Operation Flashpoint into a new era of graphics and gameplay.
It was thought that the Finish Defence Forces modifications had stopped, because a team member announced that development had hardly moved since 2004. However, this is a new hope, in that a new set of files has been released.
This version boasts new features in the classic FDF-esque personality to innovate and iterate aspects of the game, to give this volatile community. something completely new. In version 1.4, we are given new islands adapted to suit the WW2 campaign (a particularly fascinating one being Rukajärvi), and is modelled on Finland - expect lots of snow and hills.
As always, we are given a new array of units to play with, all modelled on the Finish forces from the timescale - both temperate and winter outfitting.
A highly-anticipated feature was the WW2 aircraft - the renouned FDF modellers have given us some highly accurate beasts to fly, which are highly impressive and sound authentic (the sounds are taken from real life aircraft).
And finally one small but original addition is the point-and-click seagull for multiplayer games. If you are killed in online combat, you may use the seagul to scout the battle. With FDF, you may click where you wish to move to and the computer will do it for you, instantly. You'll never miss witnessing a tank battle from the air again.
One small upset for myself was that the snow didn't look authentic. Look at this screenshot to see why. However, this did not effect the overall experience, and this can easily be rectified by the team if enough support for this argument is weighted.
Overall, well worth the download. Make sure you have Finish Defence Forces 1.3 first, as this is not a standalone modification - it's a World War 2 addon.
Note: If you experience errors when starting the game, try adding the '-nomap' parameter (without quotations) to the end of the shortcut target after the last double quote.
