It's not a 1:1 3D port of the original game, it's more of a reimagining of it.

No, simply because that game is a masterpiece, it's perfectly crafted in every single possible way, and even getting remotely close to it would be a really hard task.
* If SOTN is not an option, what about Simon's Quest, Dracula Curse, Bloodlines or Rondo Of Blood?
If i had to work on a sequel, it would probably be Simon's Quest, but i have no plans for that at the moment

Nice game, but it doesn't work for me. When i'm trying to play it in Hardware (OpenGL) mode, then i get like 2 or maybe 1 FPS, so game works very slow. And when i'm trying to play it in Software mode, then, after i enter a dor in the beginning, game just crashes. And yes, i'm using GZDOOM v 3.2.1 as instruction said in ReadMe file. So, what's the problem with this game? I realy want to play it but i can't, because it doesn't work! I was so interested in this game when i saw news about this Castlevania mod on one of websites, and i rushed to download it and to play it. I'm so ****** right now, because it just doesn't work at all!! Maybe it's my problem only, but when you making a game, then make sure that it will work for everyone, or just make a quik warning and say that - "Hey! This game is only for High End PC Gamers, even if it has 1992 graphics and engine. So, if you have not really powerful PC, then skip this game, because it will not work for you" - so everyone will know this, and know what to do with it!
It doesn't require a high end PC at all. It just happen to not work on your end. Either you have a toaster as PC or your setup just happens to bug with this mod.
My PC is not a toaster! For this game/mod, it must be good, because i can play modern games, like Crysis 2/3, GTA 5 or NFS HotPursuit 2010. So, it's a game that don't want to work on my PC.
Then it's clearly a bug with your specific setup, not the optimization. Can't help out with that though, sorry :/

Nintendo? Konami made Castlevania.... not that Konami is any better
Konami made the game, but Nintendo owns the IP and has shut down other Castlevania Fan games, in particular, a really promising side-scroller with Unreal Engine 4.
I hope they leave this mod alone. It looks great!
Haven't seen them take down any mods so chances are it wont be a problem
Nintendo has nothing to do with Castlevania or that particlar C&D.
The reason why the Unreal Engine remake got taken down was because the developer decided to monetize it through a Kickstarter, with the hope of "getting a license" from Konami, which wasn't exactly a smart choice.

That sounded like a very bad choice for that developer. To try to monetize something from another company's IP. That developer was lucky to just get a C&D, instead of being taken to court and sued for everything they had.

I've never played Castlevania before so the difficulty was a bit jarring for me. I died many times on normal and couldn't find any health supplies. I'm guessing its supposed to be like that and I just suck. ^^; This game is very well made though, One of the highest quality mods I've come across! Well done! :D
You can find health/gold pickups if you hit the candleholders & urns :P
