This mod allows pistols to be equipped alongside with your two main weapons. Pistols will share the same slot and hotkey as binoculars (default 5). Pistols will compare stats against each other in that slot.
KNOWN ISSUES
-cannot directly attach suppressors on pistols (use the toggle suppressor keybind to attach suppressors instead)
-cannot use pistol with detector
-cannot equip pistols in main weapon slots
-swapping between pistol and binocs may be inconvenient
INSTALLATION
Extract contents to main game folder. You will find modbinocsandsidearms.db0 inside /db/mods.
To backport to LD, uncompress the mod and place it in gamedata.

Did you place the mod file under /db/mods?
It is possible that existing pistols in your inventory won't work properly, as they already exist prior to my modification and thus retain their old slot value. They definitely work with pistols I pick up, buy or spawn in however.

Nice, but amount or rather types of issues are really bad to actually use it... Especially "cannot use pistol with detector"
It is possible setup a dedicated sidearm slot, but I have yet to find a way to bind keys to such slot.
I'll keep digging to see if there's a var somewhere that dictates which slots are permitted for use with the detector slot, but I suspect that's an engine limitation.
Dead Air has their own custom engine that permits a proper slot, this is just my ugly hack to mimic what they have.
I would love to use that addon, but I just too often use detector and sidearm :/

That's a hell of a hack-job. But I think it's good work and will tide people over until a more permanent solution can be found. Good job.
Does it work with the new 1.3.3 update, I'm part through a playthrough? Hopefully the next update will contain this like Dead Air does.

Works with 1.3.3 and existing playthroughs. Pistols you had in your inventory before installing the mod however may not work because the code change doesn't affect existing items.
is there any way to make it so we have a toggle button for gas masks/helmets? i don't always want my gas mask on in case im in a battle and it gets ruined, but i don't like digging through the inventory, a hot key would be great!
what i'm picturing is we put a helmet in the slot like normal, but a hotkey is used to drop the mask around our necks (and it should become invincible or at least less likely to take damage) and then push the key again to put it back on your face like normal...
Not in the scope of this mod. A very tentative "maybe" since it's not a big issue.
i'm actually surprised it isn't more of an issue for others, maybe they have a different strategy? idk, having to dig into the inventory constantly to remove/equip gas masks has been tedious for me, as i do it constantly in order to minimize the damage it recieves. i guess if i figure out how to do it i will upload it.
I only ever use gas masks and the screen helmet, so most of the time I don't even bother wearing them unless I'm going into irradiated or psi areas, or facing psi mutants because every bit of psi protection helps. It's just a couple of clicks anyway.

It will most likely be unbalanced to all hell, but I'll consider putting it as an optional addon.
Anyway to uninstall this add-on? I tried removing the .db file, but my game still treats the pistol as a binocular slot. Does it only works with new game after removing the .db file?
Any pistols in your inventory will still be able to use your binoc slot, this is an engine limitation because existing items can't update their vars automatically.
New pistols you loot or buy will work fine.

In CoC 1.5 pistols could be used under slot 1, but I don't know if that's possible in Anomaly. Seeing it doesn't have a UI slot, but uses the inventory.
