New game needed?

It shouldn't be! But it is recommended simply because I don't know if you've already changed stuff in that particular file.

What this is, is the default file as if a fresh install, and then only the changes to durability that I made.

Usually this file is hidden so if you know you have never touched it it's perfectly fine to install in an existing savegame.

Edit: And thanks for your question, i'm always trying to make the description simple but accurate, and so I've now made it clearer there aswell.

I like your thinking! Nice mod!

Not that I'm expecting this - though a STALKER can dream - it would be awesome if there was a mod that also made it possible for NPC guns to jam in proportion to their durability, with added NPC reactions.
With your mod, this would mean that jam probabilities would be linked to NPC rank, making rookies jam and react more frequently than more experienced NPCs, with Legendary NPCs not jamming at all. Other than adding more realism and immersion (and amusement), combat difficulty and intensity would scale with the player's progress, making earlier fights more manageable and later fights more difficult. This could be linked with the game's difficulty selection to scale jam probabilities to the player's liking, which could help ease newer players into the game as well as provide greater challenge for experienced players. Companion gun jamming could likewise scale with difficulty, with easy = less frequent and more forgiving, normal = default, hard = more frequent and more punishing.

Edit: Something like this kind of exists, though it's pretty dated.

Reading this I'm liking your thinking too haha, it would be great but I think there's multiple issues.
One of which being the 'hidden' inventory on companions/npc's in general for example, of which without an additional mod there's no telling what the durability on their weapon in use will be. (if that even changes)

I'll look into it.

Edit: Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think this correlates to the whole 'them shooting only 4-10 rounds on a 30round magazine' type stuff.
And it may already be the case that that's because of them jamming, and having it happen less frequently with a 100% durability gun as their main.

I had a peek at that other mod I mentioned and I began wondering that too. I don't understand Russian, so I have no idea if NPCs are making audio cues about a jam or not. They only seem to reload their guns, so it's possible that's what's happening.

Yeah I hear you, I think it's the case though and would explain why they sometimes seem to be firing less bullets than you'd expect, it's the Anomaly RNG variant of them 'jamming'.

Edit: Tested with PPSH on Hip just now and when it dropped to around 70% durability she started firing less rounds per mag aka 'jamming'. no 100% guarantee that this is how it works but it seems to be. We'd have to ask the devs themselves :)

I cannot confirm if this works for Gamma sadly, because I've never tried it and Gamma has it's own changes to traders/economy which might interfere.

Someone else might be able to shine more light on that or you can try it out yourself ^^

is this compatible with some mods like bas, blindside reanimation, mags redux and jsrs?

It should be, but again they might have edited the same file I have, in which case it's smart to doublecheck before overwriting anything just so that doesn't interfere/reset to vanilla.

None are needed, simply drag and drop or copypaste the folder into the Anomaly one :)

semi compatible, i mean armors are harder to maintain, but still would be nice for guns. Atleast it doesnt break anything. :D

True, and should I ever end up switching to GAMMA i'll probably look into doing this again specifically for it.

What if durability loss is based on how much abuse you put in the gun rather than a static min-max value that is used up when you use it?

For instance that gun is exposed to the elements when equipped, you walking through radioactive areas could degrade the gun or equipment quicker, being in the rain could degrade it quicker, but otherwise it won't degrade much or if any at all from simply holding it and firing some dozen or hundreds of rounds.

It requires the external source like weather, and the player's action to determine if it does that.

Being low to the ground and firing a lot of shots might kick up dust or water or materials on the ground and having it go into the gun. Or crawling on the ground might dirty your suit or rough it up.

Those are all excellent thoughts! Sadly better directed as a seperate issue to the actual Anomaly devs :)
