Say hello to the stuttering while you runin thru location and objects will go online every few seconds.
But this tweak really reduces cpu load.

What i didn't see anywhere before, maybe only the devs knew is that auto_switch = true can help with the lags/stuttering.

Just put the gamedata folder after extracting from the rar in a folder to be activated with a mod manager, or just move it the anomaly folder, it needs to look lie this after installed:
Anomaly Folder\gamedata\configs\alife.ltx

So what exactly does this affect the a-life? I'm curious to see how this addon affects the npcs.

This is not about npc behaviour or something, it just means that i modified the ALIFE.ltx file and set switch_distance to less than default, with this npc will load closer to you meaning there will be less npc loaded at once, meaning you get more fps, also fights will start closer to you, they will not fight in other side of the map like before.

Also this sets auto_switch to true, its an optimization the devs did not considered to have enabled maybe because in good pc is not neccesary or that increases loading times, but it can help a lot with the stuttering.

ironicly that does kind of affect npc behavior since they only really act when you near them. a lot of this games positive/immersive aspects are (at least for me) build around the fact, that the player isn't the only stalker in the zone or "the chosen one" so everything that happens feels more like you could rather influence a situation instead of causing everything, so since i only have occasionaly/rare stutters in not so common or critical places, this addon would rather hurt my gameplay experience than lift it. so good question ZOng22

BUT if someones really struggles with performance issues mostly caused by alife, this is definintly an option i'd say.

DoubleBUT: even if you have pretty bad performance.. if you like sniping and suddenly wonder why every target after 150m distance is giving up on life, it's probably the mod that basically kills AI but i'm just guessing that this is a thing that could happen.

Yes you are right in that fight will not happen at long range, its just that other players with no so beefy pc would prefer more fps rather than this, (like myself) really my pc just can't handle it with normal switch distance fps too low for my tastes.

I prefer the game to no lag so much and have nice fps, i also don't mind that the fights start close to me, i actually like this a bit more.

well if the simulation is working alright, that fight is still happening. only in simulation, meaning if you pass by that area after the fight was processed there *should* be a visible aftermath of corpses. i do not know the exact number for switch distance in Anomaly but i'd tend to say that anything spawning further away than 350m (albeit supported by the engine) is not supported by the map design. there are 4 maps in which the player can actually use the full range of the switch distance sight-wise.

the standard switch distance for SoC was around 150m too i think. so i can well imagine the lower switch distance working better especially on the smaller SoC maps.

on a side note: i always imagined the Anomaly engine with its' 64bit shenanigans to be superiour in memory management and processing power. how much of the "zone" is actually simulated around the player in Anomaly apart from the obvious switch distance triggers?

I only needed to reduce switch_distance from 750 to 550 to get +10 avg fps in Rostok (lots of npc). That was the only place where I had huge fps drops. This can really help on maps like Zaton and Jupiter.

You are a god and savior among men! My fps in Zaton and Jupiter where around 20-25, now they are 45-50. Many thanks

Anomaly is so stable and optimized, I can literally play in COP maps with switch distance at 400 and auto_switch at 300 without lagging or stuttering at all!

Thanks for uploading this addon, you made my weak notebook very happy.

Can i only change auto switch to true without change the alife count?

yes you can you need to put auto_switc_distance_normal to the desired or default one because when auto switch is set to true, it grabs the switch distance from there instead of 'switch_distance' one.

Hey, fellow AMD CPU user here. Sadly I need to tell you, bud, but I found out recently that X-ray Engine, the engine used by STALKER games do not run well with AMD. That's the reason, if you want to try to get better and consistent FPS, get a program called Process Lasso and go from there. It sucks, but it helps, my friend. Cheers and have fun playing Stalker.

how about AMD FX CPU users?

You will struggle pretty hard, the game is tied to single-core usage for processing, of which AMD CPUs lag behind on, less so Ryzen but Especially older models like the bulldozer series/FX, so keep your mod packs light and play with draw distance and alife numbers till you get stable performance.

Hey, another (rather late, i know) alternative for FX users is going into the BIOS, setting up the cores count to "one per CU" which is 1 core per compute unit or some such, and then clock it skyhigh to compensate for the low single-core performance.
For instance, mine's an FX8350 and it comes from factory clocked at 4ghz, it's currently overclocked at 4.8ghz though, which isn't something usually doable with all 8 cores active (gets either too hot or unstable)
This way you're getting 4 full cores, 1 for the game and 3 for the system!

Just wanted to confirm that this fix also works wonders for Anomaly 1.5.2
I have an Alienware Area 51MR2 with
RAM: 32gb
graphics: RTX2080 Super
Processor: i9-10900k @ 3.70 MHz
Storage: SSD - 3.5Gb/s read, 3.0 Gb/s write
Resolution: 2k (2560x1440p)
Maxed graphic settings
Many mods installed,
And even with those specs I was getting 30-40 fps on some places, and periodic stuttering at times.
This fix increased my fps to 50-70. THANKS!!!

auto_switch set to True to reduce delay causes failures to load jupter. and playing without this option set to true, causes me endless stuttering. so tragic.

i am playing with this since forever, and the only time i was unable to enter some map, was because the mission 'lost squad' or something that one about using the rf receiver to find a squad was glitching out, since i don't accept those missions, i actually disabled them, never had that issue again that was rare to begin with.
This mod is not outdated the latest patch didn't change this file.

My man, you are a legend. I've been wrestling with sudden fps drops for months and this finally fixed it. I use it together with EFP 4.2 and it all works like a charm now. Thank you so much!
