(395 votes)Loooong, I am loyal to mods I play
(589 votes)Alright... I'll keep trying mods each release
(251 votes)Short, try once and then I move on to a new title
Depends what the mod is, but the reason I don't go back to a lot of them is because most developers get disheartened by their first release building up so much tension then the community not showing as much excitement as they were for putting it out. So further releases are usually further apart and less, and lack that same initial excitement factor you see in big mods like dystopia back in the day or even Insurgency. Anyways keep supporting mods, I know moddb has been a little less active in that field as of late but don't give up hope on fellow developers!
Whilst I 100% agree with the point you are making Chris, how is ModDB not supporting mods as well? I'd like to think we are doing it better than ever and if not - how can we improve?
I mean I don't see as much activity around these parts and people really building up developers. Not so much moddb's fault completely, its many factors such as the exponential complexity of engines and less mods therefore less people following them. I know the majority of modders outside of their own motivation thrive on feedback. Not saying what moddb is currently doing is wrong, rather because there are less people maybe more people should step up to lend a helping hand or just be active in trying to start communities or being a part of them. Like these fans might be interested in being moderators on the mods' forums or spreading the word (everyone knows PR as much as many devs condemn people who just want to do that is a necessary job). Didn't mean to flame though if thats what you thought I was implying.
Less mods? Seems like more mods to me.
Part of the problem I see, is when the word gets spread too well, lots of hype gets built up and it becomes hard to meet those hyped expectations. This doesn't just happen in mods, look at UT3.
Hyped? UT3? Average Joe PC gamer didn't even know it was released. Even big PC Games mags were slow to pick up on it. It was severely underhyped and under-advertised.
Huh? Not supporting mods as much of late? ModDB IS doing more than ever! Jailbreak has had more support from ModDB than all of the other news sites combined (except Interlopers, who've also been brill!). ModDB TV, the Modcast, features, previews, reviews, interviews, all with the developers of various mods!
Most of the time I stick with mods but if they're lengthy and a tad boring, I will skip it and go on to another. But I've come across some pretty awesome mods and keep playing them.
I voted long because I'm a slave to SMOD, I've been playing it forever!(well, for a long time, anyway). I do play most other mods a couple of times, and sometimes if it's a really good mod, I'll play it many times. 'Get A Life' for example; I must have played that four times over now!
It really depends, if a mod was throroughly unenjoyable on release, I'll most likely skip it even on new releases.
Normally i play the mod when it`s released then most likly end up removing after about 4 hours of play mainly because my hardrive is only aa 80gb so i don`t have that much space left on my pc. I just hope my new mod will be popular :p.
only one mod that i have been long and loyal to and that's Natural Selection, then everything else is alright... i'll keep trying mods each release and then i tend to lose interest rather fast if it doesn't meet what i thought it was going to meet
Well, it really depends. I'm not going to keep looking for releases for mods I didn't enjoy but the ones I like I'll keep updated and keep playing them.
Define long...
Because if it's a good mod, then sure I stay with it(although I might not play the specific game it's for so extreamly much, It's to be kept on my hard drive at all times...)
If it's a bad mod however, I stop playing it imedietly, which is a given.
I try any mod in C&C3
I'm open to playing anything that catches my interest for whichever titles I have. The few mods I like, I've stuck to a lot. Heck, I still play Strangelove.
lol
I only play mods that I enjoy a lot, but I will make an effort to try any mods with a decent amount of content and players.
I just deleted 4 mods yesterday =( But this was 'cuz I needed to free some space in my HD. It's 98% Full xD
It depends on what the mod is like. If it's good I'll keep it. For example, my favourite mod has become my favorite game, which I play every day for at least 4hours. Zombie Master.
Generally I have a pretty short span, except with video games. I picked number 2.
I generally will play one mod if I like it enough. Urban terror had years of my time and I played a whole lot of Chaosdm/lmctf before that. The big issue with longevity and mods is that most players these days are jumping from game to game. The amount of titles and systems being thrown at us is coming too fast and we cannot stay with a title because the next month will see a new release.
