personally i believe they should be open to all... well at least give it a test run. Because then guests could share there thoughts and well thoughts really are invaluable... That is one of the many aims of this site - to get a real community created where modders can post their thoughts and recieve insightful feedback from anyone

just have to see what other people think of this

Actually, I'm more concerned with the layout of the site. There's imply too much information on each page, making it hard to find the comment box, let alone be interested enough to use it.

I also think the site could use some more color to help direct reader's eyes to the major points of interest in the site, in this case, the comments would be one of them. Otherwise all these little sections just blend into one shade of grey, and that's pretty harsh on the eyes.

i personally think that there is too much information -> but if there wasnt the level of info then it wouldnt be as usuefull or informative as it is currently. I believe you need to cram as much info into the space as you can, as most people look at what's on their screen, and hit the alt+f4 if they dont find anything they like... but having so much info on the screen tends to draw more people like scott who like their stats.... and i'm one of them ;)

Pertaining to the poll, i think it should be only open to members, as if somebody really "hates" and is going to create a negative atmosphere around the mod, or moddb, then we can deal with them, however if it is a guest, we have no way of stopping/tracing them.

My thoughs :)

After thinking about this, I had to vote "members only" with how the system is set up now. I've had problems in the past with certain people libeling us for one reason or another, but it's been through e-mail or our forums (which I am moderator) and I can handle it accordingly. On modDB, I don't believe there is any way for me, as a member and mod leader, to delete or edit slanderous material directed towards us from comments on either my profile or my mod's. If such a system were in place, I would be more inclined to approve of non-members posting. I have seen other sites where they log IPs of everyone who posts, and if you could use those to ban disruptive guests from posting, you could avoid the majority of these problems (or at least stop repeat violations). As for layout, I'm with you on this, INtense!. I personally don't think there is enough information on each page... please add more :D!

i am siding with all that has been said...

i am really tempted to try out commenting by anyone however then that will most definatly encourage some mofos to just post negative stuff...

if it were to be implemented all IPs would be logged and administrators would definatly be given the ability to delete comments - as to extending that functionality to include mod leaders deleteing comments about their own mod.. i shall have to consider it.. i dunno i am really tempted to give this a run but so far the consensous is no

I'm a Stats guy myself. Just cram it all into one page, that's the best way to go! Agree on the grey color, us dark blue or red to give it a good mix up :) For the Poll I suggest members only.

Well, it's like this Poll, I couldn't even find it first time I went looking for it! Of course it was late, but still...

First thing, and a pretty big change: See that big logo up top with all the empty space to the left? Fill that empty space with something that's being hidden away in the sides.

Try getting rid of the user control panel on the main page. Most people are probably browsers, so they won't need it. As for mod managers, they would probably go into a page with only the control panel so they wouldn't have to load up all the news every time they wanted to change something.

I have kind of a good argument against open to all wich is ...

**** YOU, YOUR MOD SUCKS MONKEY BALLS YOU LOUSY *****, DIE!!!

recognise that? ... most idiots who post like that wouldn't bother to sign up ... anyone who has to say something usefull might as well

Should Definitly be open to all, let guests sample the community by being able to add to it, soon enough they will get sucked in and become members.

Of course, posts by guests should be marked as such. As for newbies argument which is a good one, perhaps one way around this would be to allow MEMBERS to flag bad guest posts, after a certain number of flags the guest post gets removed from the site untill an admin can determine if the guest post in question should be perminatly removed.

yeah all comments you have raised are right..

however to keep commenting undercontrol mod leaders would be able to delete any comment about their mod they dont like... i am siding with what mochumbo had to say... let them sample the site post a few comments, because others thoughts is what everyone likes to read most...

i mean i can turn it off and turn it on in a jiffy so if it does prove sour it'll be removed right away... any flames? :flame:

If the feedback (the good the bad or the ugly) is to be legitimate, it should be open to any who want to post.

If someone posts something that is totatlly inappropriate (really offensive), I would hope that moddb would have some other policy that would allow it to be removed.

Open and honest commentary is something we've never been afraid of anyway ;)

But the ability to delete/edit comments for the mod leader/site adaministrator/author should be created.... :)

I believe I started us on the topic of letting mod leaders delete comments, so I will respond to this. In the past, people from other mods have tried to libel us, and for no apparent reason, by e-mailing me or posting in our forums. What they were saying was completely illegitimate and had nothing to do with reviewing the mod or whatever. But how would a moderator tell if it was legitimate or illegitimate? I'm not sure... It wasn't necessarily offensive all the time, and it could have been believable if you didn't know better.

well Iv'e seen this happen ...I dont think the posting of comments should be allowed to the guests- see the deep six forums.....giving the guest an oppertunitty to post gives the thing...of spammin.....
instead see MPHQ....only members are allowed in there it's nice :)
sorry Intense!......;)

I personally like to be able to take part in anything and everything, without having to register. Maybe I'll be just passing by and want to drop a message for the developers/community. People may be put off giving their thoughts and the mod might lose some useful input.

But, unfortunately it also opens things to abuse. I must admit the only time anyone's ever sworn and gone crazy about one of my mods, they were saying how ****ing absolutely ****ing awesome it was. But I guess that's a one in a million guy who'll do that anyway... Mostly they'll just rave like The_Friendly_Newbie demonstrated :-)

Anyway, I think the site is ****ing awesome, and it will very likely become a site I make use of extremely often. I'm completely amazed by the work you guys have done, it's a really healthy boost to the mod community.

I believe that each member should be given the ability to remove any of his/her own comments. Perhaps there could even be a daily quota on how many could be added/deleted. If we view another member's comments as libelous, slanderous, etc. we should be able to tag or report it for removal, and then the moderators will sift through and adequately dispose of them. :-)

(P.S. btw, sry for the repeated comment. I wuz using my pocket pc, and I ended up tapping "Back" on ie by mistake, and when I hit forward to get back to the original page, it repeated my comment. THIS IS WHY WE SHOULD BE ABLE TO DELETE OUR OWN COMMENTS!)
