I might actually slip in a plug for the ModDB group on other sites, which we encourage you to watch (these can all be found in the ModDB blog: Moddb.com )
It's basically a social group on Steam with a chatroom. It has a group page where news items can be posted, and the owners of the group can also sned out alerts and schedule Moddb-specific events. Finally all the members have their online status displayted, so if they are in a game you can join the game server they are on.
We'll be attempting to update each of these community groups fairly regularly. I update twitter every couple of days with the latest moddb dev news, so you know exactly what features are being worked on.
Not realy, you can play HL2 without connection by: turning on Steam (online) starting HL2, then close HL2 and turn Steam into Offline Mode. Ready! Now you can play HL2 without internet.
Steam has a lot of bad sides, like it's heavy drain on
the computer and it works really slow, also the fact
that if you lose your account, you're screwed...
I wouldn't mind Steam, but I hate the reliance a lot of games have on it. When games with a singleplayer component require you to be connected to someone's server in order to play, there's something wrong. I'll stick with my box, manual, and ability to install regardless of where I am or what I'm doing.
If it were offered as an alternative, and not a compulsory component to the software, I'd probably hate it much less, but it's too often not.
I never understood how hating steam & having your junk kicked repeatedly were opposites. :D If that's the case I don't like to have fun! :D I prefer my junk in a non-kicked state!
I like to have fun... but I hate steam... go figure :D . Runs anyways not on Linux and if I'm playing once a game on steam ( currently only IOSS until PoA is once again up and running ) then I'm playing and not chatting. A bit pointless for me ( and most probably others ).
Steam must be doing something right, such as providing useful games and applications like Source Development Kits. On the front-page, there's countless Source mod updates. I see more Source updates on this site more than anything; aside from the few Crysis and UT3 ones. Everything else is left in the dark.
If mod developers can handle Steam usage; so can a typical user.
ModDB community sounds fun, but being a party pooper is the way to go!
Just joined... thanks for letting me know :)
You should do some group events with each mod that is supported in steam.
That would get people playing the mods together.
Just an idea
Join it now and get notified of special events concerning HL2 mods! Steamcommunity.com
Haha 100% hate having fun as of now. (Including me (I don't have steam. So sue me.))

And that comment is being voted down because...?
Guy asks a question and I give a comprehensive answer. Go figure. >_>
(buried)
Wow I'm really ******* impressed. Jackass
What was that all about?
It's yet another demonstration of how the voting system just plain doesn't work. Too many idiots, too little respect between them, too little time.

I JOINED :)
Well, now I have...
Not that there's a great lot of people there,
and i don't really like steam anyways, but ey!
Why do some people hate steam?
I dont see any problem with it, only "good sides".
the only bad side is that u need connection for hl2 to work...

btw, is there a "disable" cd-key on steam?
A heavy drain of 0 CPU and 8MB memory?
Don't look at those values, that the computer lags more
than Crysis when Steam starts is proof enough...
just joined when i saw this vote cause i didnt know that Moddb had a Steam site
Me too
