i dont think it will affect modders, but i think it will change the way that the general public views mods. a lot of people will probably now see mods as being bad and graphic. completely wrong but thats the way the mob works

This whole thing about Hot Coffee is stupid. It's about a whole lot of politicians in America trying to raise their own image using a scapegoat such as this. I think gaming in general is going to get affected by this, but we won't see developers stop releasing their tools anytime soon.

Mods aren't affected at all. The issue is with the hidden and unrated content, not the mod that unlocked it.

i agree varsity, but a lot of the general public that knows nothing about what we do sees it is that this mod is responsible. it doesnt matter whos fault, it matters what the people think, even if theyre wrong.

gta-sa being re-rated as M is bs in my opininon, you couldnt play hot coffee in gta-sa without the mod so technicaly it wasnt in the game.

I agree with Mantis, doesnt change mod comunity, just changes the view. people will probably think modders are evil people who edit games just to put bad things in them but that is just stupid.
and to everyone who voted "What Hot Coffee Mod?" what rock have you been hideing under?

EA have already confirmed they won't change their stance on mods RE: Battlefield 2. The only people who can change anything in the modding scene are the game developers - and they never will because it is a major source of their talent (employees), inspiration, and the game you pay for's popularity.

I don't see hot coffee as changing the mod scene at all, because let's take a quick look at the facts:

-The Hot Coffee Mod wasn't made with tools released by Rockstar, it was more or less hacked game code
-A game's life span is ridiculously extended by the mods that come out for it, Half-Life 1 being an excellent example, publishers and developers alike aren't going to want to lose that
-In the case of Hot Coffee the actual explicit minigame was already in the game, that's why Rockstar and the ESRB took so much heat for it, even though it did have to be unlocked
-Explicit mods almost always require adding new content, in which case only the modder can be held responsible
-The general public doesn't even know what modding is, let alone the inane politicians, so the chances of them going up in arms over it are unlikely

I do think Hot Coffee will change how gaming on a whole, especially violent games, are percieved by the general public and portrayed by the mainstream media. However, I don't see it having much affect on modding. Maybe some warning when you install the game or an extra bit in the license agreement about the original developer and publisher not being liable for additionally downloaded game content. That's my two cents rant on the matter.

Is anyone who knows not about Hot Coffee serious? It sucked, literally! People now get all wound up if they see a violent game. They are so stupid, they are worried that kids are getting access to violence, which I agree shouldn't happen. I think that game and movie rating should be similar for similar content. If a kid gets it, it is the fault of the retailer, not the developer.

The general public dont even know what a modification is, nor do they care.

Besides, there are many great mods out there, and the mod community is huge, anything to try an infringe on the mod community's freedom will cause a huge revolt by modders, gamers and games developers. It'll die down.

The hot coffee mod is fine. Just ignore it. Its the same idea as porn sites, theres over 500 million, and you jus ignore them. Do the same with the hot coffee mod, oh and that was a bad move for rockstar lol
