Welcome to the 1st Annual Indie of the Year awards, where developers, fans and press rub virtual shoulders and celebrate the best of the indie scene. 2010 has seen the release of a pixel giant to a boy made from meat and many other games which from humble beginnings now rival the success of many triple A titles.
What is Indie of the Year?
Indie of the Year is IndieDB's award show that rewards excellence in independent game development and all related fields. This is the first year that the IOTY's have run separately from the already established MOTY's but we have been celebrating indie games since 2006 when Tremulous took out the first ever award. The way the big title gets handed out has changed over the years however one thing remains constant and that is the winners truly deserve the title, going on to do great things later on.
Tell me about the Panels Choice Awards!
The Panels Choice Awards is a change from the well established "Editors Choice" which was found in our previous MOTY awards. For the first time has a handful of press judges cast votes on both the Mods and Indies of 2010 that they think deserve the awards. It's something the ModDB/IndieDB staff have wanted to do for quite sometime, you can see all the judges who are involved over at the judges page.
This is all so very awesome, how do I start voting?
Easy, phase one has not changed from last year, simply navigate to your favorite Indie profile and hit the big vote now button, anyone can vote for anything they want, but members of IndieDB votes are worth a whole lot more, so make sure you sign in before you vote! We will have more information on Phase two once it roles around!
If you are a developer and you want to participate in this years awards, now is the time to tell everyone you know (especially grandma), drum up some excitement for your project and get the votes you need to make it to phase 2. Who knows maybe your project could be the next Indie of the Year!
