Welcome to the Nam, troop!

Following the success of The Nam : Vietnam Combat Operations, Pinoy developer Tiger Yan is working on The Nam : Wider War,the game's official expansion pack.

Developed over a period of 20 years using Westwood's Tiberian Sun Engine, The Nam recreates company-sized operations during the Vietnam War.

Wider War expands theatres to include the neighboring countries of Laos and Cambodia, covering the Cambodian Invasion of 1970, the Laotian Invasion of 1971, the Easter Invasion of 1972, the Fall of South Vietnam in 1975, the Khmer Rouge War from 1978 to 1991, plus the bloody Sino-Vietnamese War of 1979, when 200,000 Chinese troops attacked Vietnam . . . and were bushwhacked by the combat-hardened Vietnamese.

As well as introducing dozens of new units, the expansion will include six new maps and features innumerable upgrades from the original game.

Players can command the US Marine Corps, Vietcong (VC) and People’s Army of Vietnam (PAVN), Army of the Republic of South Vietnam (ARVN), Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), Pathet Lao and even the legendarily vicious Khmer Rouge. Units from South Korea, Australia, New Zealand and the Philippines can be encountered as well. Whoever wins, each battle will surely test your mettle as a field-grade combat commander. Are you ready to survive The Nam?

ARVN for VCO

The Nam : Wider War pays homage to the underappreciated soldiers of South Vietnam, who not only lost their war, but their country as well. (VCO)

Xuan Loc

One of Wider War's upcoming maps represents the legendary last stand of the Army of the Republic of South Vietnam (ARVN) at Xuan Loc in 1975. ARVN troops are in possession of the buildings at the top, while PAVN forces backed by T-54 tanks advance up the ruined town. (VCO)

VCO Cambodia

Cambodian Khmer Rouge troops, including forcibly-conscripted child soldiers, prepare to defend a temple complex against Vietnamese. Pol Pot's regular Khmer Rouge units lasted all of two weeks against the Vietnamese, but spent TEN YEARS doing to the Vietnamese what the Vietcong did to the Americans - fighting a guerilla jungle war. (VCO)

Chinese

Tanks and troops from China's People's Liberation Army (PLA) cross the northern borders of Vietnam during the bloody Sino-Vietnamese War of 1979. The PLA succeeded in temporarily taking several Vietnamese towns, but with extremely high casualties. (VCO)

Vietnamese troops protect Cambodian refugees in 1978. It was the Vietnamese who finally ousted the Khmer Rouge and its tyrannical leader Pol Pot, who killed a third of all Cambodians in less than five years. (VCO)
