Post news Report RSS The Inaugural Update

This is the first news post here, but that's about to change as development of this project is accelerating.

I have a few things to share with you, with the first one being something those of you active on the Hard-Light forums might be aware of.

I know this mod is anything but a Mortal Engines videogame. There are reasons as to why it is so, and it's understandable. The engine powering the base game itself is designed for space combat simulators, which set exclusively in outer space and tend to be more mission-based.

That being said, there will be a mission which takes place within a planetary atmosphere and all ships are affected by gravity, as well as a dogfight battle with an airship with fighter-like agility and maneuverability. I am sure this will involve FS2_Open's future use of PhysX and COLLADA.

With Tyler "DahBlount" Blount as leader of the Source Code Project, I expect him to revisit the idea of implementing COLLADA, which will be used by PhysX to greater effect. And I do think VR will enhance the mod's fidelity, especially with headsets such as the Valve Index.

The assets used in the mod are derived from Ancient-Shivan War, but with upgraded assets from Nyctaeus. It is anticipated that these older models are to be upgraded to meet today's standards set by the FreeSpace Upgrade project.

Besides these, ships from Diaspora are used, as do pre-existing ones from FreeSpace 1 and FreeSpace 2 via the MediaVPs. These include the Raiders, Heavy Raiders and the iconic Basestar from Battlestar Galactica, but also new ones as well.

The mod is to have three episodes, and each episode consists of 15 missions. The introduction of the game's next enemy will occur at the next episode. This is done to ensure the quality of the episodes are being pushed to the maximum when they shock and awe upon release.

I'm very grateful for your continued support of this mod project, and I'm so excited to work on it. Watch for more updated regarding this project here on ModDB and other venues.
