Post news Report RSS Status Update #22

A good chunk of progress has been made since the last update.

It seems like things have slowed down since the last update right?

Well, actually, I have been busy with optimizing the maps & verifying everything is as 1:1 to the originals as possible, so that if anyone wanted to reverse engineer the map format for the game, they would have a great amount of documentation to start with.

Plus, I've also documented some internal game mechanic stuff like the character talk timer that ticks down before the character can talk again (picking up items, killing enemies, etc.), & the timer for the sphere generators to spew out a Sphereoid.

So basically, at this moment in time, I've been taking apart the game & documenting the default values and such for each mechanic so that I can implement them into the TC as closely as possible to the point where it's indistinguishable, because I am hellbent on authenticity.

That being said, most of the work so far has been dumping the 3D models from the game using Avocado & making sure that there are no anomalies with the models themselves, like warping & such. Even though this isn't the best way to get the models as it will not be 1:1, it is the only way at the moment since the model format hasn't been decoded yet.

Another good chunk of the progress made was restructuring the textures to be much more neater & easier to find via level folders for the level they're featured in (or unused, but are in the level file itself) rather than just having them all in one folder & having to sort through all of the graphics for the one you want.

And finally, a decent chunk of progress has been made to the lighting & thing placements to the maps themselves.

For the lighting & colored lighting, I am able to use RetroArch's Beetle PSX HW core and it's texture replacement feature to change a guns graphic to a full-on white box, and then I use an external program that allows me to color pick the current color currently highlighted on-screen to hover over the white box while the character is standing in a colored room to pretty much get the color I need in (near) 1:1 form. Again, not perfect, but it's a good starting point.

I will continue to provide updates as always on the current progress of the TC via images & article updates.
