We've run into a serious snag with the project recently. In the last few weeks, an unknown hacker has been attacking www.umsmaps.com,, the host site of DotR and homepage of many of the team members. The culprit could be anyone from wwww.wc3campaigns.com, the largest Warcraft III website (whom we know have mentioned once or twice the idea of hacking into us and "taking those UMSMappers down") to a banned user named InSiDeR. The attacker(s) has been constanty changing their IP address and overloading us with a massive number of hits. Our server administrator has done all he can to stop the attacks; he can't handle it anymore, so as of Monday UMSMaps.com is homeless. Madacc, our site administrator, is looking for a new provider, but frankly we don't know where to go.
What does this mean for DotR? Well, first of all, we have all vowed to finish this project no matter what comes up. If UMSMaps.com dies, then Dawn of the Rebellion will be our last hurrah. I have a friend who has enough server space to host a staff forum. Even if UMSMaps.com goes down, DotR will live on. Production may be slowed down, and the development site will have to be kept secret, but this project will see the light of day, and no hacker is going to stop us.
Wish us luck in finding a new server.
Mmmmust kkkkill hhhhackers :de::dead::warning:
That's some weird goings on
Madacc recently coded and released the Warcraft 3 Stock Market, a brower-based game that pretty much simulates the real stock market, only with Warcraft stocks. The registered players shot up and is still climbing - right now it's something like 3,500. Skull, the administrator of Wc3Campaigns, has shown himself to be irrational before (he has links to all other major Warcraft fansites censored on his forums and recently deleted his General Chat section because of "obesessive spamming") but we never expected a hacking attack from him. InSiDeR was even stranger; he was very intelligent but extremely hostile to everyone on the boards; almost like a high-riding elitist. There may be other possible attackers, but what's done is done. We can only hope we can find a new provider and this attacker stops his games.
