SLOPES
Smoother ships! Part 7 of Blockade Runner's editor videos reveals angle blocks and slopes!
Just like with the native frame cube block, this new 45° slope can have any type of plating or interior placed on each of its individual sides. Also just like the cube blocks, the new slopes will have power and utilities roped through them, as well as having the frame and plating bolted onto the sides affecting the ship's weight and center of mass accurately.
Most importantly, with the new slope frame (with more to come!) shipbuilders are no longer bound by blocks, and can make their ship as sleek as they like, inside or out!
SOME THOUGHTS
The editor's compass plays an important role in the placementr of slopes! Usually I’ll lock the direction I want the slope to be placed in, which then gives me the freedom to move wherever I want while still placing in the same direction. (Incidentally for those who don’t know, the compass is the green arrow in the upper right and turns blue when it’s been “locked” by pressing the “V” key.)
We've also added the ability to place frames with an automatic wrapping of plating or interiors, which cuts down on a lot of the time taken away from building, especially with bigger ships.
The new slope frame is just the beginning for angles in Blockade Runner, so stay tuned for part 8 of our editor videos coming up within the next few days!
