Quick news update for the v1.0 release on July 01,2014

Posted by on

EDIT:
Sorry I'm a day late. I got caught up in RL stuff and didn't realize the first had come and gone. I'm going to upload this tonight so It'll be ready to go tomorrow.

I haven't posted in awhile so I thought I would let everyone know whats going on.

I'm shooting for a July 1st release date for version 1.0. Despite it being called 1.0, I feel its not complete and it needs alot more work on the scripting side of things. Also, there's still some stability issues that I'm not happy with. I'm not sure if these are from the Rulix's AI or just Clear Sky problems, probably both.

I've had alot of requests for a "lite" version of this mod, thats what the July release will be. I've decided to release a lite version that doesn't interfere with the games storyline or NPC gameplay. Also this will help keep the mod size down....the weapons alone are over 600megs zipped up.

I guess this isn't quite a "lite" version, but its certainly not the full mod that I want to release.

v1.0 features:
New weapons. Includes meshes, textures, sounds, animations. Artists list will be in the readme.
New player arms.
New sounds. Taken from Music overhaul, Ambient Audio overhaul, and from various other mods.
New food items, ammunition, and monster items.
Dynamic hud, item effects, sleeping bag. These will be includes since the weapons are balanced to take into account the hud shaking. Also, the item effects are neat.

Ballistics and NPC durability have been changed. I guess thats a gameplay change, the stock setup is awful. Shooting a NPC 8 times in the head to kill it and having the return fire hit every time is ridiculous. Looking at the wpn configs, I'm 100% certain GSC didn't take into account NPC accuracy at all, every wpn config has it set to max for every weapon in stock. :(

I'm not including SWTC, or Absolute Texture Packs in this release. I will release those as a optional download, or you could just download theme separately. SWTC can be replaced with Atmosphere 2.0 if you want and the Texture packs can be installed on top of this.

I've decided to do a lite version because it will take me ages to finish this mod the way I want to. I'm exploring my options and I think I might integrate this mod into another like OGSM. No use reinventing the wheel when its already been done.

Merging this with OGSM would be neato if you decide not to do everything you were planning.

Some of the Russian mods have done it first and better then I could do. With good translations coming out thanks to David.me and others, I'm thinking I should just take advantage of the material thats already there and adapt it to what I envision.

Have you optimized weapon textures? 600MB is a little of a tall order compared to other mods.

Yep. Every weapon except the Bulldog 6 has been replaced. 95% of those are on 2048x2048 textures. All have proper defuse and bump maps. Doesn't seem like much when you look at one directory, but they add up really quick.

Also there is a dozen or so weapons added.

Can't wait for this to be released. This mod brings Clear Sky into the next-generation, so many features, serious graphic tweaks, with added weapons and new textures, sprawling faction wars across beautifully rendered swamps, improved AI, new equipment...
