This week for Overgrowth (which you can preorder here) I finally got the arena to the point where I am happy enough with the base assets to move on. This doesn't mean they're perfect, but if I don't get a chance to improve them before the game is finished I could still live with the current quality. I have been testing out the arena obstacles using prefabs made with exiting assets. They seem to be working well, so I may use it as the basis for the obstacle set, and add anything else that may be missing later. I also started planning the shop stalls for outside the arena.
Be sure to watch it in HD!
Getting the arena to this point has been cool, but I am excited to move on to some different kinds of props. The shops should have a lot of neat stuff to model, and it's a lot of fun hopping around on the obstacles.
Does anybody have ideas for shops? Maybe one that sells your favorite street food?

The arena is looking fantastic. Great job!
Shops look great to me, they fit right in...
just make it look more cramped together
A place that sells Pancakes, Donuts, and Soda.
wow, love it, to be honest weather and stuff seems kinda gloomy lol, and there'll be grass and stuff right? xD
according to the sketch you made over the screenshot the stalls look a bit big in comparison, wich may distract from the more humble and scrapped together huts and stalls barters might put together in the desertlike environment.
If you'd made them alot more cramped and small(especially with the sunscreens on top) wich was probably the idea of the sketch, there might be severe camera issues.
if these stalls will be actually interactable to buy weapons or something a guided camera that lowers under the sunscreens might help?
I'm probably just kicking in open doors, but still :/
love it severily so far
I dig Aubrey's way of creating environments from scratch, I think a lot more originality occurs than when everything is plotted into a grid from the start. These are great production paintings, but I prefer the ones like the dragon painting, because it gives more insight on actual painting technique.
And if you create an hibrid game RPG-RTS? in specific moments control individually the character but for long battles control a huge army of bunnies. :3
Ok is only an idea, I am dreaming. x3
I would suggest adding a "vaulting" function to the movement system so if you run towards a small fence or something you automatically climb over it and continue on... Maybe for things like chases?
Well the thing basically automates almost all movements like in Assassin's Creed so it might not be a great idea to do this fully... But in general it makes movements flow seamlessly.
Maybe if there's 3 props aligned close together but with spacing, and your running over these spaces, the character will carefully run over them if he's at high speed, without tripping on them, but if you were to start off walking off one, you'll fall over them.

I really like your first idea about vaulting. I think it was give a very neat flow to the game.
Simply awesome, guys! :)
Arena is coming together!
But you have to be careful not to spend to much time on very area specific assets, because having detailed areas amongst non-detailed expanse is going to start looking a bit fragmented, imo. Stalls will have parts that will be useful in adding life to most town areas though.
Rabbit food... They eat brambles, that would be cool (:
So... maybe some more backstory or ideas you have for the game would be nice :) i mean is it going to be solely singelplayer or multiplayer ? what animals will be playable. I'm thinking the obvious rabbits, wolves, bears... maybe some exotic animals like lions or tigers maybe even feature an animals that have hooves like moose or something like that :)
and this is just me thinking but maybe you could "build" your own houses or larger items start independent nations and building larger castles (mostly if multiplayer)
and are the cities going to look different depending on what sort of animals that live there, i dont mean like are rabbits going to live in holes but will it in some form going to be influenced by how they act in our world ?
imho, you are trying to put too much different colors into one scene
if you watch the arena, you say mostly grey stone, then the blue roofs and suddenly in between them red and orange umbrellas, that just doens't look right
(ye, I know I`m late)
