I wouldn't say it's retarded... it's just, somewhat redundant. Ronin were Samurai without a lord, so it's like saying, "PC the Computer".
It's not redundant, it's contrary. A Samurai is not simply "a lordless samurai." Samurais without lords were expected to kill themselves and those that didn't, ronin, were shamed. It's more like saying, "apple the disgraced apple who is now an orange."
Now, do you think your game will benefit from;
A) arguing with ppl who know better that the title is just dandy
or
B)changing the title to something good?

the character's name is Ronin, and yes it is a play-on words b/c ronins were lordless samurais like our character.
