Next week is MineCon week. That means we'll release the full version of Minecraft (which will be called “Minecraft”, and have a version number of 1.0. The current version is “Minecraft Beta”). We'll keep working on Minecraft for a long time after the full release, but it's a huge milestone.
That milestone also means people might start reviewing the game. There have been a few reviews already, but I have a feeling most people are waiting for the full release.
This makes me nervous.
It does feel like the game has already proven itself. Lots of people play the game, and we receive a lot of friendly and positive emails from players. We've won several amazing awards, so several people in the industry seems to enjoy what we've done.
Now it's just the press left.
It's a bit weird, but gaming scores have become so big and bloated, I can't help but feel like I would be disappointed with a score that would be a great score for something like a movie or a music album. And even if the score means relatively little compared to the players and the awards, it's a distinct number people will use to compare the game to other games.
But what REALLY makes me nervous is the fact that I'm going to have to do at least some public speaking at MineCon. I'm fine with meeting fans and signing stuff, and even with having my picture taken, but standing on stage and trying to get a point across really terrifies me.
Just for everyone's information, I am going to shut down reviews for about 3 days.
This is because I'm changing the release date.
Okay :D
I just bought Minecraft after 1 year and 4 months of playing the cracked version *-* I feel so complete...
(buried)
Baaaad boy. Cracking is bad, m'kay?
<.<
>.>
your statement is overrulled by what he just said.
BECAUSE he cracked a game he liked a lot, he went and BOUGHT it afterwards. he has contributed to Minecraft, after he spent that time cracking.
cracking costs 0 money. some will resort to it, but they'd simply not bother if they couldn't find it. the industry does not lose money over it. they just don't gain money.
however, here, cracking has contributed ~$15 to Mojang.
this is a familiar pattern, and one I fully support. cracking FTW! just buy/delete it if you're happy/done with it, k?
Wow. This is the first reasonable view on cracked games that I've ever seen. Thank you good sir. Thank you.
no problem at all! ^^
You should read notch's blog post about it. Notch is a bro.
Happyness all along. Also 4 milion buy's.
Normally I'm against piracy, but cracking for a demo when there is no demo is OK in my book! So long as if you like it you buy it that is, and delete it if you don't ;)
I find cracking only to be ok if the game is no longer sold/available, or if it has no demo. or both!
Thank you guys, it's awesome to see how people understand me.
I'm not a rich guy, so I can't afford to buy all the games, but Minecraft was special!
iplayed a crecked version first too, 2 months later, i bought it.
I will buy minecraft if it comes on public stores and not only in digital versions.
Right now i am only watching the game only cracking it for some mod or when i would just like to play.
We all know Cracking is bad so please ppl don't use cracked games if you like it, buy it!
LOL :D you cant but mean that as a joke :D
Ghost11's 14, he has no way to buy it through digital.
im pretty proud about my Alpha licence :) buy once, play 4 ever <3
so lets show what Addons Mojang Studios will release :D
does beta get that too?
Hits the jackpot with an indie game.
Still nervous to speak in public.
See people, money doesn't change anything :)
I have a cracked version and the legal version, only reason why I keep both? I don't have internet at my home and sometimes the original client doesn't allow me to play offline.
Also best of luck to Mojang.
I first played the cracked version because I was scared it was a virus to get into my paypal account, but then I noticed multiplayer didn't work in the cracked version. I wanted to play it with my friend, so I was all what the heck and bought minecraft. I feel so happy now. :D
Completely agree with what Notch says about game reviews being bloated - in my opinion game critique needs a complete overhaul. At the moment, games seem to be incredibly polarised in reviews. With films, a good but not great film is 3 stars, whereas a good but not great game is 8/10.
games are different though, it takes alot more sometimes. Scripting, mapping, it all takes a coordinated team So i think that we take that into account when we review/rate
thats my opinion :/
Minecraft will be up there with Mario, Pacman, Tetris, etc. in the Games Hall of Fame in a couple of years, you'll see :D
Just ignore IGN reviews (who need to drop 0/10 somewhere if they want to make their paid for 10/10s stand out).
Otherwise, just remember. Over a million sales for what is in effect a java browser game. I don't think that's EVER been done before. EVER.
But seriously, after 1.0 will you guys start on server software in C or something less... Java? Not the greatest language for a game this big xD
So far over 4 million copies have been sold for this game.
A milestone indeed for a game which one person created within a year.
I was too happy...
Today, my account isn't Premium anymore, why!? :( What have I done!? I didn't even hacked or something like that, I didn't even played on multiplayer too much, just a few minutes :(( What's wrong? :(
there is no such thing as a premium account. there is only alpha and beta accounts.
considering you made a point of saying you didn't hack, I'd say it was probably some form of hack, or external buyer. that, or MC.net is down, and you can't login.
Yes, it was a external buyer...So I'm not allowed to buy from other sites than mc.net? :( Damn...I feel so bad, I think I'm going to quit Minecraft and all of this.....:'(
At last, you helped me, thank you very much Kizzy, you're a great person...
its coming tommorow then?
Dunno, it would make me happy if they release and completely overshadow Bethesda.
