Now, to show you some awesome eye candy! I wanted to showcase the work of our lead effect designer, FriendlyFire. He has been toiling away for the past several months improving all effects of the game and adding many new ones of his own. The first video I will show illustrates the new engine glow effects he's painstakingly crafted. Each ship requires several hours of work to get the effect just right. Fortunately, FriendlyFire's attention to detail is uncanny and it really shows in this work:
For all of you explosion junkies out there, this video will surely be a treat for you! FF's mission over the past several months has to improve the explosions in every aspect of the mod. He's spent dozens of hours to achieve this by crafting new .ALEs (the code which allows effects to work in Freelancer), new textures and timing of sequences. For the player, this means you'll see some amazing explosions while you play the mod. Because it's the MOTY awards we wanted to release his current masterpiece of the Imperial Star Destroyer Death Sequence.

May I ask, how will these new effects affect performance online during large events like ME's and TE's where there are large numbers of players in close proximity to each other?
Otherwise, looking great!
Effects are a client side concern so it depends a lot on the individuals computer specs. Furthermore, we don't plan to have events like ME and TEs in FW:ToW. Remember, we're not making 18.xx ;) we're making something completely different where we focus on day-to-day gameplay rather than two event weekly gameplay.

Hoping for a beta release on April 2nd 2011. But we'll be posting news in the next few days which may delay things...for good reason, too. What W0d has done will change the way Freelancer is played forever :) And yes, I'm being cryptic :D
