I have made a mod for EU3 for more than 3 years. There are many mods for this game and in my opinion, these mods are what are keeping this game as popular and known as it is. There are three expansions (you really should just by EU3: complete and EU3 HTTT), Napoleon's ambition, in nomine, and Heir to the throne.
the final one, HTTT, adds the final touches and rounds out the game enough so that mod makers can refine the game to a superior level. If you like strategy war games that are based on history, then you really should look at this game. If you buy the game, you should look at some of the many great mods.
Paradox Interactive has been regulary updating the games with patches and expansions, so this is still a supported game and will probably not be replaced anytime soon.
