Post news Report RSS Live Modcast

We're re-structuring the features here at ModDB. Take a look at some of the new changes we're considering.

Posted by on

First off, I just want to say I screwed up. We lost audio for the part of Modcast 7 and it was mostly down to me. I blame the rest on Matt's constant ranting putting me to sleep. Instead of re-recording, we are going to re-purpose the developer interviews into some of the new, improved features we have planned.

While the Modcasts were great, they lack any sort of community interaction and while we tried doing community questions, they still didn't offer enough audience interaction. After putting down a healthy handful of recorded episodes, both Dave and I think the Modcast would benefit from going live. It will offer more audience interaction (listener calls, real-time chat) and would be a great gathering for the site's who's who of community members every couple of weeks. The downside is developer interviews will not happen every episode, as time zones and scheduling conflicts may make many of them impossible. Instead we will be re-purposing the interviews into another feature. The Modcast will still be the best place for mod talk of all kinds. People will be able to call in with Skype and talk about their project if they want or ask some of their questions directly to any guests we have.

The other thing we want to put out is more video content. We know you guys are appreciating the recent Noesis video features and we're working with them to put out even more stuff. We've got a few more ideas for even more in-depth video content and we're still ironing some kinks out on the best way to put it all together but when it comes, I'm sure you guys will love it.

We'd also like to get more written features out there, and while I'd love to compose more reviews and previews, organizing a lot of this stuff monopolizes my time. If there's any writers out there who would love to come onto the staff and write some reviews or preview mods before anyone else. Send some writing samples my way.

That's all for now, stay tuned.

you know, you could possibly do a mixture of life and post produced content such as interviews when its not possible to do them live :)

I like the idea of going live anyways :)

Well it is all good and well having this go live. Its a great idea for those who can participate, but what about the people who can't. Like me.

its simple enough as just opening the feature on moddb.com and if you want in just follow the link to the chat. So you need not own skype to join in! :D

Shows will still be archived so that you can listen to them later if you weren't around for the live recording.

Good, but surely going live only offers the 'live' benefits to members in certain timezones? Does this mean that European members will lose out to US/Aussie-oriented scheduling? (what with you being from Canada and Henley being from Aus)

Moddb.com

This poll would seem to indicate that the majority of members most willing to interact are based in Europe, so please take this into consideration when scheduling these live podcasts, or at least mix it up a bit.

I LOVE that you guys are constantly striving to improve the mod scene with things like this. It adds a great deal to the whole scene, and makes development teams feel wanted and special.

I also love the fact that, from a HL2 only perspective, whilst the rest of the modding news sites are trying to destroy themselves by posting nothing (go check out PHL, their entire news page is L4D, Portal and TF2 related, why?), you guys are just posting more and more great stuff.

I've not heard Grayshot mentioned anywhere else in the scene, and now it's one of the mods I'm most excited about. More power to you guys, and keep it up! I'll be sure to bug you during the live podcasts with my Britishness!

Too bad the next cast went lost. I was looking forward to hearing myself :)

We're definitely up for a live cast instead. We should be available from anytime after mid July or so
