Post news RSS June Update - The Battlestars

An update on the mod status and progress, as well as some eye candy for the mod watchers.

Posted by on

Hey guys, longtime no news post.

Well my exams finished in May, after having a small relaxation period and working at my part time job i have finally got around to doing some work on the mod. I have decided that all ship textures will be re-done to include a bump texture, Why you ask?

Well the bump texture method not only increase the detail the texture has but the smoothness of the shining on the texture when in-game. You may remember in BSG Colonial Wars when you had shiny models when they came into contact with the sun. This is no more.

Just to show you what i mean, I'm introducing you to the new Galactica Class Battlestar. She will spawn an array of new weapon systems as well as animated turrets. We hope to have a full coded version in game in the next couple of weeks.

Below is also the the new textures for the Mercury Class Battlestars.

Mercury Class Battlestar Mercury Class Battlestar Mercury Class Battlestar

These are just some of the new textures which will be available in Battlestar Galactica: at War. This mod is back in FULL production and expect regular updates. Let us know what you think of our new Mercury and Galactica Class Battlestars.

Special Thanks goes to Jedi_Consular for his assistance in teaching me how to do this correctly. More NEWS Coming SOON!

A great update for both ships. I noticed that you said only two Mercury's were ever built; does that mean there will be a build limit in the mod?

In the description of the Mercury class

"The Mercury Class Battlestar was constructed at Scorpia Shipyards and was designed to replace the aging Galactica and Coloumbia class battlestars. These ships where by far more superior to their previous sisters, they held a larger armament of Rail Batteries, as well as 4 hangar bays for launch of the new MK7 Viper. These ships where designed to be the front line defense of the colonial fleet. Sadly only 2 were officially built before the colonies where destroyed."

Read the last sentence.

"Sadly only 2 were officially built before the colonies were destroyed."

That's why I'm wondering if there is a build limit.

Byron, have you considered limiting it to just two and beef it up a bit more? It could give it a bit more strategic value by not allowing spamming multiple instances of them.

Excellent models.
I have a question: Are you going to keep the turbolasers as the main weapons of the battlestars or are you changing them?

All weapons will be redesigned to resemble the weapon projectiles seen in the show.

Outstanding sir! I have altered my own to resemble those in the shows. I have made the missiles fly straight with no ability to curve to reflect the main cannons of the battlestars. The Diamond Boron Missiles, to be exact. Their explosive detonation makes great for anti-fighter work. I have also given all of the Cylon ships missiles and only missiles except on the Max. There are other things that I have changed to make it a more "realistic" feel. Unfortunately, my computer can only handle so many fighters. LOL!
