Hello everyone. My name is Francesc Romero and I'm from Barcelona, Spain. I'm the developer of Between the Stars. I started to develop Between the Stars in early 2016 and a few months ago the game was Greenlight on Steam. In this first article I will explain the general idea of the game and in the coming weeks I will write more detailed articles about it.
Between the Stars is a roguelike game where you play as a captain of a military spaceship. The final goal is to get to the capital of the Republic to defend it from the attack of the outer worlds. During the journey you will have to make decisions that will affect your ship and crew, buy and upgrade weapons and systems of your ship and fight with enemy ships.
The approach of the game is very similar to a mix of FTL and Starpoint Gemini. There is a star map procedurally generated in which we have to reach the portal that will take us closer to the capital. Each time we reach a new section of the map a new event will be generated.
The result of an event will depend on our desicions, the level of our crew, their morale and luck. The events can affect credits, morale, crew members, weapons, improve overall ship statistics and much more.
During our journey we will have to equip and upgrade weapons and systems.
Some systems and weapons will give active abilities with cooldown time. Some examples are optical cloaking, repair drones or nuclear missiles.
During the battles we will have to control the movement of our ship, aiming of the weapons, energy distribution and active abilities.
- Many spaceships unlockable through achievements.
- A lot of unique events that make each game different.
- Maps and enemies procedurally generated.
- Full control with gamepad or with keyboard and mouse.
