Heya, space-fans!
We are entering a new round of ES development. For the next big release of Eternal Silence we've planned exciting stuff! We're going to do an overhaul of the FPS phase as well as making some long-awaited additions to the space combat.
However, many from the original ES team are no longer active in ES development. Before we can begin development, we need to fill out the ranks of our noble team.
We are looking for talented individuals of the following qualifications:
- Artists
- Modellers
- Animators
- Mappers
- Sound techs
- Voice Actors
If you think you got what it takes, head on over here and read more. Be sure to include a short description of yourself and a sample of the work you've done in the past. Please note that without a sample your application will not be considered.
In other news, some custom maps from our dedicated community are nearing completion.
First off, we have the es_navigator. An explorer ship of the United Terran Forces is ambushed by the Neo-Galactic Militia and finds itself in a desperate struggle for survival. The stakes are high - both ships are carrying highly secret technology that could easily turn the tables of the war.
Secondly is the ctf_olympus - a planetside battle. The NGM fleet is attacking a small mining outpost and metropol on the asteroid Olympus. The UTF fleet, currently docked for repairs, must retaliate swiftly and firmly to prevent this valuable resource from falling into Militia hands. The map is a space-only map - the only of its kind - and navigating through the mining tunnels is difficult even to the most skilled pilots. Up to the challenge? The Fox One clan is hosting a public playtest of ctf_olympus on wednesday 18th.

SINGLE PLAYER PLEASE!
dude I thought this was dead! Awesome, I love this mod! =D
Btw I'm also a sound tech =)
Like StarWars Battlefront 2, apparently.
OH **** YOUR BACK
Make space control more fluid. Star Wars Battlefront 2 did it right, you guys have struck out with it thus far.
* You can lose track of the objective (and enemies) VERY easily with the first person perspective, making the game extremely difficult for new users.
* Shooting accurately is a slow process, the target usually has to be flying in a straight line if your a driver.
You can partially fix both of these by having 3rd person driving.
did you really play this mod?
aim at the enemy and hit F, you will see him whenever it goes, unless it becomes "invisible" at long range.
Shooting accurately is as simple as to shoot within the target circle.
Don't touch anything of space combat, is fine as it is.
there IS 3rd person ingame already, has been for more than a year
Umm yeah...
* Press F to lock onto any enemy or objective location
* Shooting accurately is pretty easy if you aim at the target icons (usually leading the targeted enemy ship)
* 3rd person flying perspective is already in the game
Try to actually be informed before you start making comments.
Eternal Silence is one of the best mods out there and I'm really happy to hear that there is new development starting to take place! Keep up the great work ES team!
There IS third person flying....
Good luck with finding new team members, I think working on the FPS aspects is a good idea.
I never uninstalled. I knew this was coming. Good luck!

Port it over on Cryengine 2, Source is shithouse
Don't knock my karma points down, Im not trolling, im stating an absolute truth.
Source is over 5 years old, Valve don't even bother updating their old games with it anymore, they just port slightly tweaked versions to their newer games like L4D and don't spread the update load over to their older ones that use practically the same engine, thereby extending the shelf life of their older games.
Cryengine2 kicks arse, it has alot of life in it. The physics engine is better, the shaders are better, the lighting is better, vehicular controls are WAY better than source, it can handle MUCH bigger environments and being a fully scalable engine means it can show alot more poly's per screen, and in higher detail, than Source on lower end machines. Look at Mechwarrior: Living Legends mod, anyone who says that does not look the **** is kidding themselves!
A game like Eternal Silence is MADE for a game engine like that. It's not my problem if some of you don't have the hardware to handle Cryengine2, that's the only reason i can see why some would issue negative karma points. And if so, well there's no point denying that someday you're gonna have to get with the times people and upgrade your machines or be left behind.
Kaneda13 why dont you just make a cryengine space mod no need to switch
Hardly anyone plays ES right now. A shame for such a quality mod.
Hey, nice with some friendly comments :) BlueDrake I've already replied to your application ^^
Rukus don't worry - the next update will feature a user-friendly tutorial, explaining all that stuff ^^
I don't think we'll be porting to any other engines soon. It requires a lot of manpower, that we don't currently have, and time that we'd rather be spending on improving the game.
Single player? We'll see what'll turn up :)
