Post news Report RSS Community Questions #1

Last week as a change from our recent updates we invited our community to submit questions to the team to form part of this week's update. Thank you to everyone who participated. We couldn't possibly fit them all in so we've picked some of the more unusual as well as a couple of the most common questions submitted. This is only the first "Community Questions" update in a new series so it's not too late to submit new questions to the team.

Last week as a change from our recent updates we invited our community to submit questions to the team to form part of this week's update. Thank you to everyone who participated. How many chapters will there be?

We have no fixed number of chapters planned.

Each chapter of Traction Wars will build upon the last and bring fresh features to the game whether they be in the form of new gameplay, maps, nations, vehicles or even a whole theatre. At the moment we are focusing all our energy on the first chapter "OVERLORD" set in the British sector of Normandy following D-Day.

Will there be a command/squad system similar to games like Battlefield?

A teamwork orientated FPS wouldn't be complete without some form of command system.

Traction Wars is no different although ours is based on the real structure of the WW2 command systems. We've had to adapt them a bit for simplicity but you will notice the difference from games set in a contemporary setting. More details about how the system works will be released in the future.

Will weapons be customisable?

Limited customisation of weapons will be available to players but only within the realms of historical accuracy. There will be no unlocks.

For example a rifleman will be able to fix his bayonet or a grenadier attach their grenade launcher to the end of their barrel. Scopes will not be detachable to dissuade players with scoped weapons from getting too close to the enemy instead of providing medium/long range support.

Will there be bullet penetration?

Absolutely yes. You may feel safe behind an old wooden fence but if you really want to be safe in cover you will need to find something with a lower penetration value such stone walls, sandbags, earth-works and the bodywork of vehicles.

What vehicles will be in the first release?

We have started the development of our vehicles (as you may have seen in previous updates) but most likely you won't see any vehicles in OVERLORD. We are planning for them to follow in the so far unnamed Chapter Two.

Can I play on Linux/OSX/Other?

We would love to make the game available to as many platforms as possible but sadly we are limited by CRYENGINE, the engine on which the game is being built. CRYENGINE supports Windows Vista/7/8 but support for other platforms hasn't been ruled out in the future.

When is the game coming out?

Afraid the answer is (as always) "when it's ready". We are working hard on the game but it's a massive undertaking so please be patient.

Is the game really free?

Yes!

What about AMD's Mantle? Star Citizen seems to be getting support for it, so the same should in theory apply for the rest of the games on the same engine.

The key difference is that the Star Citizen developers have full access to the engine's source code. TW devs do not.

Ah. Yes, I can see why this would be an issue. However, we never know what CryTech might do in the future.

Don't worry about not having vehicles right away, at least I can do without them for a while =).

Hopefully locking the scopes will make people actually play their classes correctly.
