Hello everyone we are BitterBeetleStudios and today we are going to present to you our concept of narrative for Cod Works!

Posted by on

To summarize things up Cod Works is a shooter game based on the Portuguese cod fishing in the 20 centuries mixing it with science fiction Victorian era machinery steampunk, we have been developing it for some weeks now and we plan for much more to come.

This week we are happy to share with you our concept of narrative, that will be present during the game and hidden with easter eggs.

Game Narrative

In an alternative universe where the Carnation Revolution never occurred, Portugal took a different path. Under Marcello Caetano's rule, the country prioritized industrialization, sparking an increase in powered machinery.

With heavy investments from the Portuguese government in steam based technology, Portugal became the host of innovation and automation.

All the sectors were affected by this sudden change with different types of tools, machines, and other equipment, making agriculture, fishing, and farming way easier than before.

Even tho Portugal had a political stagnation at that point it thrived economically and technologically, showing the world the dominance of steam powered machinery.

The game itself would take place in the Greenland sea where our protagonist drives a steam powered dory in search of codfish with the help of his harpoon.

The invention of this steam powered dorys were built by a famous inventor in Portugal, in his small workshop he crafted the idea to help all the fisherman survive the cold ocean.

Here is a concept in Unreal Engine of what the inventors workshop looked like.

This is only a concept the final art of the game will not look like this, in fact it will look much more low poly.

With this we finish today's article, next week we promise to take a look into some other aspects of gameplay and how the prototype is going.
