Chasmal Fear - Underwater Station Bodycam

Chasmal Fear is a first-person tactical shooter survival horror game played from the perspective of a bodycam. It puts players in a mysteriously empty sci-fi underwater station where something has gone terribly wrong. Resources are limited. The odds are stacked against you. Choose wisely between fighting or sneaking past the monstrosities which once killed might mutate into something even worse. Unlock hidden areas and solve puzzles to uncover the truth. Every decision will impact your playthrough, some swarming relentless monsters against you while others offering the chance to employ stealth and cunning to survive.

Limited Resources

Being in love with survival horror games (looking at you Resident Evil), we decided to limit player ammo and scarce ammo boxes in order to encourage players to think strategically before blindly diving in battle.

Immersive Bodycam

It’s safe to say that the gaming world was shaken by the rising genre of upcoming immersive, hyper-realistic bodycam games and we will proudly admit that we found this concept mind-blowing. After talking with players on the topic and listening to their needs, what we realized is that players would love to play a bodycam survival horror game. In our body cam survival horror game - Chasmal Fear, the setting is in the near future and players' helmets are also equipped with an AR interface to assist you as you wander through the dark, steel hallways.

Monster Mutation System

One of the first things we decided to experiment with was a “Monster Mutation System” - as we love to call it. In other words, some monsters when killed will randomly mutate into a stronger form (randomized different beings with their own unique behaviors). Do not be surprised when you see more terrifying foes in an area you thought you cleaned out. Make sure to end them using a special knife before the mutation process ends.

Decisions Affect Gameplay

Another thing that we focused a lot on was complete replayability. Brainstorming on how to achieve it, we decided to set up choices that will drastically change your gameplay experience. For example: choosing to open one way will close other paths leading to the next goal. Depending on your decision, you can rush in guns blazing or maybe sneak stealthily around a swarm of enemies; you can hide in the shadows and take a completely different route and you will avoid part of the level that would’ve opened if you have chosen another option. Moreover, you can use your environment (eg. exploding barrels) to blast away the monstrosities, but be careful - sometimes they might tear down the floor and send you down a completely different path.

Fully Randomized Events

On the topic of replayability, we wanted to add a bit more - a bit of icing on the cake. Here come the randomized events that occur throughout the game unpredictably such as varying sounds, crumbling ceilings, unexpected scares or an invincible enemy that’ll force you to run.

Hyper-Realistic Environments

Utilizing the power of Unreal Engine 5, we trap the player in a creepy, mysteriously empty underwater facility built on the side of a massive ocean cliff. Combined with a bodycam perspective, we’re aiming to provide an immersive, unforgettable (and terrifying) experience to our players.

Co-Op Possibility

Well, why dive alone in these steel, dark hallways when you can always get a friend to join you in this nightmare. Invite a friend to Chasmal Fear. Our survival horror game has a co-op possibility and it can also be played with 2 players. Now, you must wonder, why only 2?
Here’s what we thought: true horror has always been about feeling alone, helpless. Having more than 2 people may drastically reduce the impact.
