basic over view of how i plan to balance it all in...

Posted by on

Hi
Its been a while since ive posted real news, so here goes...
What im going to talk about is general balancing of the mod. Now not everyone is going to be happy with this but im going to be making ships of simialr roles are type identicle power wise. What this means is that for every ship in one faction there will be another that is its perfact match in another.

Eg
Death Glider (SG), Viper Mk2 (BSG), Tie-fighter(SW) and Type 9 (ST).
The difference from race to race to keep it fresh will be as follows

TEAM - Sld - Hp - Spd - Thst - trn - D Sh - D Hp - range - Scan - hyp
SG ----- 3 ----- 1 ---- 2 ----- 3 ---- 1 ---- 2 ------ 2 -------- 2 ------ 1 ----- 2
SW ----- 2 ----- 2 ---- 1 ---- 3 ----- 2 ---- 2 ------ 2 -------- 3 ------ 2 ----- 1
ST ------ 2 ----- 2 ---- 2 ---- 2 ----- 3 ---- 3 ------ 1 ------- 1 ------- 3 ----- 3
BSG ---- 0 ---- 4 ---- 3 ----- 2 ----- 1 ---- 1 ------- 3 ------- 2 ------ 1 ----- 4

to explain this more or less what we do is put in the 'points' allocated to each vessel and it gives me the difference between say a BC304 and a Firestar.... the BC304 (a corvette class) was put into this its shields will be 3000, its hp would be 1000, its speed would be 20, and thrust will be 3, its turn is 1, shield damage 100, hardpoint damage is 100 rnage is 2000 scanner is 1000 and hyperspace speed is 2....
but for a firestar (a BSG corvette) shield 0, hp, 4000, speed 30, thrust 2, turn 1, damage shield 50, damage hp 150, range is 2000, scan distance 1000 and hyperspace speed is 4...

understand?

Good lol

the points well be using are as follows, not not all races have a ship for each class yet, and we havn't even sorted out ST, but here it is

Points for ship stats - ship class - ship general deatils
100 - Fighter
100 - Heavy fighter - same as fighter speed x .5 armor x2 damage x2
500 - Bomber
500 - Heavy Bomber - - same as bomber speed x .5 armor x2 damage x2
3000 - Corvette - A small, lightly armed, but fast ship
5000 - Cruiser - A fast independent warship. Traditionally, cruisers were the smallest warships capable of independent action. Now virtually disappeared from the oceans, along with battleships and battlecruisers.
5000 - Armored cruiser - speed x.8 armor x1.5
5000 - Heavy cruiser - speed x.7 armor x2
5000 - Battlecruiser - speed x.6 armor x3
6000 - Pocket battleship - small battleship, capable of heavy damage but otherwise are week
7000 - Battleship
8000 - Destroyer - battleship speed x2 damage x1.5 armor x2
10000 - Frigate
11000 - Aircraft carrier - minimal weapons, caries 4 squads of fighters and 2 squads of bombers
15000 - Supercarrier - minimal weapons, caries 6 fighters, 4 heavy fighters, 4 bombers, 2 heavy bombers
20000 - Capital ship

Basically, i will be making one armor type per class, and it will be common to all ship in that class regardless of faction, that said the top chart will alow me to fine tune it a lot better. Once ive coded in BSG and SG i will upload it as a patch and itll be ready to play...

Right now ive done no armor or shield coding, but i have changed the damage values and most of the other stats to match the above

No set date on this patch but i hope this helps u understand that im not just sitting here im actually doign al ot of math and stuff lol

Indeed it is, thanks for noticing. I performed a little "life-saving" stunt in a game that reminded my friends of Scarerow's combat style.
