ZombieMod takes a unique approach on the Zombie Apocalypse by putting it in the perspective of a military commander, not a survivor. Since it is 2 years after the first infections, resistance on the east coast is organized, resulting in battles rather than small groups fighting for survival.
The M60a3 is a late game, doctrinal unit that the Bandit faction can call in. It is cheaper than the Abrams, but cannot take or deal out as much damage. The tank comes standard with field-applied armor that increases its resistance to infantry and zombies.

"It cannot takes as much damage" but what can a zombie do against a tank anyway?
Currently, for balance sake, we have set it up so that zombies will do very small amounts of damage to vehicles. There are special zombie types that do a lot of damage, but that is yet to be revealed.
Well burton, somehow I cannot imagine how zombies are going to fight back tanks. I can understand that you've something in mind about that, but with a tank I can simply drive backward, hence zombies can't reach me.
There are more than just the slow, shambling zombies in this mod
it'd be cool if you could balance them by giving them limited fuel and ammunition, but afaik you can't do that without extensive coding if at all in the CoH engine?
It can be done, but idk if it's worth the effort.
