Wonderful Life is a short and experimental art game designed by Thomas Papa, currently graduating from the Utrecht School of Arts (the Netherlands). It is a game about the goal oriented society we live in, a society that only wants more and more, and forgets to stop and smell the roses. A society that doesn't recognize, understand or appreciate what we have right now; that what surrounds us. You play a character that weightlessly floats through a system of tubes. You look at the world down below, the present. You look ahead into the distance, the future, and navigate your way forward. Like a work of art, it's about the emotions and associations of the player. The game is more about the entire experience rather than a set game goal. It experiments with narrative, aesthetics and symbolism. It will feature hand drawn game objects and generative music. Wonderful Life is a Total Conversion Mod (TC MOD) using the Unreal 3 Engine.

Wonderful Life is getting closer and closer to completion. The latest uploads will give you an idea of what the hand drawn game objects will look like in-game. Most objects are complete and only need some finishing touches before they get implemented in the game. The drawings are a combined effort of Martijn Proost and me, Thomas Papa. We're inspired by comics writer and artist Hergé, best known for The Adventures of Tintin and Japanese artist Hokusai, best known for his stunning woodblock prints.

The game will feature a custom build camera system, different from the regular UT camera. Also, all the music composition and production for Wonderful Life is in its final stage and ready to be implemented.

Most of the game logic is in place and functioning. This month's work on the MOD will focus primarily on getting the character in the game, implementing his behaviour and animations and adding lights and shading to the game world and objects.

The second half of the month will be filled with thoroughly play-testing the game, locally. This will be done by a broad and varied audience consisting of both gamers and non gamers. SInce this is an art-game of experimental kind, I'm extremely curious about the response.

I would like to thank everyone for all your support, comments and feedback. If all goes well, a Beta version of Wonderful Life will be released, here on Moddb, around the 20th of August.

Thomas
