The Dark Sense of war, a First-Person Action-Adventure game for Doom III. The current project is a spin-off to "Return to Castle Wolfenstein".
If you love lightmaps and mix them with stencil shadows...
How you have made it?
For static shadows, it's a big waste of performance the use of dynamic stencil shadows. So to make these fake shadows you have various ways:
1. The Use of a light with a texture.
2. The Use of decal textures. (add the shadow penumbra)
3. Or to Bake the shadows on the diffuse texture.
I have used decal textures. But the rest of dynamic stuff uses hard edge stencil shadows. Anyway, these hard edge stencil shadows will be less noticiable because of the design of the maps.
I guess those are not dynamic. But who cares if the results are those :D, is also a nice boost on performance with a better result.
That's right. Not everything has to be fully dynamic.
For example: The lighting and shadows of an outdoor place or a static light source.
And as you mentioned, It does not only give better results, but a huge performance boost.
