Blade of Agony is a story-driven FPS. The project is inspired by WWII shooters from the 90's and early 2000's, like Wolfenstein 3D, Medal of Honor, and Call of Duty, but with faster-paced gameplay in the spirit of Doom! The game can be played standalone using the GZDoom engine as a base. "This is basically one of the best DOOM mods I've come across." - John Romero

Post news Report RSS Wolfenstein | Blade of Agony - Final Release

After a total development time of 6 years, 1 month and 20 days, we proudly present you the final version of Wolfenstein: Blade of Agony, a standalone fan-game in the spirit of first-person shooters from the late 90's, set in the WWII and powered by the Wolfenstein canon. This is our vision and creative freedom how a official sequel of Wolfenstein 3D might have looked like, inspired by games like RTCW, Call of Duty and Medal of Honor but with a twist.

Blade of Agony | Full Release (v3.0, standalone)

Blade of Agony is much more than just a pastiche of the classic shooters that inspired it; the project offers a unique experience with many features not often seen in free fangames:

  • 30 playable and unique levels (plus secret maps)
  • Orchestra-quality game music
  • Voice acting and ambient soundscapes
  • Available in 10 different languages
(en, de, es, ru, pt, it, tr, fr, cz, pl)
  • A combination of low-poly models and hi-resolution sprite assets to create the perfect retro feeling
  • Devastating armaments from the battlefields of WWII
  • Interactive NPCs that support the twisted plot's progress and help you understand the game
  • Improved enemy AI for more dynamic and challenging fights
  • Beautiful special effects (weather, elements, explosions, etc.)
  • Modern post-processing shaders (motion & effect blur, noise, flares, etc.)
  • Much, much more!

The team was working hard to create an experience that is dedicated to all those oldschool gamers born in the 80's and 90's; not only when it comes to the visuals and gameplay but also for the easter-egg and reference hunt, for the retro feeling the nostalgia and the attention to detail. There is so much to discover for you, and we really hope that you enjoy what has cost us a lot of sweat, nerves and life time. May it be as fun to play for you as it was for us all to create it!

Check the official Blade of Agony webbpage for more information, download it now from ModDB and get psyched!

There are snap and flatpak releases available (they were updated right after the release):

I don't use both of those. Got gzdoom from AUR and dropped the ipk3 to a proper directory and it worked.

Is it possible to run this through ZDL or something? I appreciate the all in one package with a launcher, but I prefer to just run the pk3 files myself if I can.

Of course, but do not forget you need a specific GZDoom devbuild:

For the sake of fun and out of curiosity I wanted to try it with other weapon/gameplay mods. I don't know if that would be possible since I did not manage to load the iwad with gzdoom because no mod loader recognizes it because of the ipk3 format. Any suggestion?

UPDATE: I forced ZDL to read all files and put boa.ipk3 as iwad and nothing else. When I try to launch it this is the meassages (parts in red and final): 1) Script error, "boa.ipk3:mapinfo.txt" line 143:
Unknown property 'disableskyboxao' found in map definition 2)Execution could not continue.

Could not find map E1M1

The suggestion is to use a non-outdated devbuild of GZDoom. This is the version that is packed in the archive: Devbuilds.drdteam.org
As for the second message, you might have forgotten to remove '-warp 11' or '+map e1m1' from your load order.

I did not notice that build 4.6 was out. I'll give it a try, thank you.

Great Mod. I found an Error:

If you do not throw out a grenade during training, but accidentally throw it into your own room, you will not be able to proceed. No new grenades appear and you have to hit 3 targets. However, this is impossible without a grenade.

Have you tried pressing 'use' while standing next to the shelf with grenades in that room?

Your mod is very eye-catching me. I want to download and play it, but before that I have some questions:

1) Is there some PC requirements like minimum or recommended specs?

2) Standalone means that this mod is standalone and not require Doom II game installed in PC right?

Just curious, but I will definitely give this mod a try.

Well, there are probably no such details for 1), but if your computer is able to run the bundled GZDoom development build (4.6pre-195), you should be good to go. Lag amounts will depend on the system configuration, though it seems from the recent reports that users with high-end graphical cards experience _more_ issues than those with 'average' ones.
2) Yes, exactly.

Hi,

I sadly never had an answer because my previous comment as been deleted.
I see that we can no more ask why something is historically non accurate.

So, no much flattering, someone know how the disguising system work ?
There is a lot of rack coat but never find how to wear these uniforms ?
Is it for a special mission only ?
In help menu it is said that Uniforms provide cover unless you cross the gestapo ? (Legit)

Yes, it is only for special missions, there are some in the second and third chapters. There will also be some hints on these levels.

First I wanted to compliment the devs for this great work.

I got that also using the boa.ipk3 as iwad I cannot combine it with othere gameplay/weapon mods; at least I could not do it.

But I have a question: is the basecamp hub skippable someway? Or, as an alternative, which is the maps name so that I can straight warp to a different level for sake of the exploration of the mod.

Thank you and cheers again!

If you do not mind losing your progress and potentially breaking some of the maps upon changing the levels via console, you can use the command that "Dumps a list of all maps defined in MAPINFO to the console" (search Zdoom.org for this phrase).

Man, for being a mod about killing Nazis there sure is a lot of cringe and downright tone-deaf terms and phrases.
"Master race"? ******* really?

As for the skill name you are referencing, it has already been removed from the development version of the game. The 3.1 release will not have it.
