In the far reaches of space, a lone prison station lingers among fields of asteroids. This is the Deep Space Authority Penal Colony K4N545, reserved for the most violent and hardened criminals. As part of their punishment the prisoners endure forced labor working in all aspects of mining, processing, and storing the asteroids around them. With the resources obtained from their labor, the station is able to sustain itself without any government support.

These self-sufficient aspects have distanced the Liberty class penal station from any government authority, thus allowing corruption to run even more rampant here than in most places across the galaxy. Various forms of smuggling, human testing and illicit weapons trading are an everyday reality.

The resulting tension and fear have lead to the implementation of extreme security measures. These range from Combat Class Robots to automated lock down measures as well as an ever present contingent of Aggression Rangers. Should anything “unusual” occur the station can go into a quarantine lock down until total security is regained.

With so many cookie cutter, realism CS clones flooding the modding scene, 12” productions has decided to break away from the tried and tested and take a gamble at something different and unique.

“What if Meteors Prevail” is a multiplayer horror survival game based on old b-rated sci fi movies. It is going to introduce a new form of gameplay, something we like to call a cinematic experience where players don’t simply play a game, they experience it as thought it was movie. A gameplay over gimmicks approach to W-I-M-P will ensure a totally new method of makings games where the plot and player immersion are just as important as the graphics and other token aspects of modern game making.

The basic gameplay driving the wimp experience is a struggle between two teams.

The Marines. After being awakened from their deep freeze they find their station in near total destructions. Their main objective is to repair the most critical systems of the station in order to retain its integrity. Each time the game starts this side will be given between 3 to 5 missions that they need to accomplish. These missions are chosen randomly from a list of 20 or more, giving us a grand total of over 8,000 possible combinations.

The monsters. Grotesque creatures (straight out of the cheesy 50’s sci-fi movies) subject to the mysterious meteor. Their only objective is to protect the meteor from the invading marine team and that means only one thing; kill the marines before they can accomplish their objectives.

Lastly there is a third team, the zombies The weakest of all 3 teams, nothing more than cannon fodder and filler, and although for most part controlled by the computer they can be inhibited by dead players from both sides allowing them to stay in game, instead of idly watching it from a death cam.

Well, there are a few reasons why that won't work so well.

First off, the zombies are slow. Thus, if the marines keep moving, as they should, the zombies will have a hard time catching up to them. Then, the zombies are weak, and if the marines work together they should be able to hold them off. Their purpose is more to be a nuisence (sp?) and to slow the marines down. Also, if they are all commanded by a single zombie player and follow him, that opens up the rest of the map for the marines. Meaning if the slip by, they will have a lot more safe ground. Basically, the best use for the zombies is to let them find the marines and swarm by themselves. This way, they create obstructions from all directions, slowing the marines down to let the monsters take their shots. If you bunch them all up, they will get more in the way of each other than the marines.

A good analogy: in medival times, knocking down a 3 foot wide door and charging you army through, while the enemy has hundreds of archers aimed at that one spot.

Plus, the zombie player that tries this will have to be quick, since once the game starts the zombies will either begin in one area and disperse, or a decent amount will be already roaming the map (I'm unclear on this part, will have to talk it over with fonx). Either way, he'll need to take command of the really quick, cause if he thins out the ranks of the roaming zombies too much, it will ease the marines job, and he'll not have enough to do much more than stall the marines for a bit.

But, if it happens that these steps don't prevent this from being a feasable "cheap" tactic, then we will deal with that when the time comes. Until then, I'm confident it shouldn't be much of a problem, if any.

So being a zombie isn't really fun, or completely game altering, but it can have a small effect if the zombie player works with the monsters. I mean think about it: you're slow, have a weak attack, get knocked down easily. Ok, I kinda just kept on going here, but hopefully this'll explain a few things.

Wouldn't a player then want to be a zombie and pretty much make them banzai charge the enemy just to be one?

not to mention the whole command mode. As a zombie, you will be able to take controll of npc zombies and give them limited commands adding strategy and depth to their behavior.

Ok, sorry, but I'm having a hard time to tell if you're being sarcastic, serious, or I dunno.

And "speccing"??

Also, this isn't the full description of the zombies, just a summary. The thing is, though in general just "cannon fodder," if controlled by a player, they become "more powerful" in a strategic sense (which I don't know if I should go into detail or not... fonx?).

But, we are planning on at minimum 30 minute rounds. So I think most people will appreciate being involved in the game some how. And, since more zombies means more enemies, and you know, 1 zombie may not make a difference, but maybe 3 or 4, and you have enough to take on a marine.. maybe two (only testing will tell) so it helps promote teamplay, since you don't want your fellow marines to die and become your enemies.

So, I just figured I'd let you know, the zombies are not just "silly little thing that won't have any real effect on gameplay." It's just that this description is a summary, since it would be overbearing if we went into detail about every single aspect.
