The Unofficial Patch is not really a mod, but while the default basic patch mostly only fixes bugs, the optional plus patch, that can be choosen at installation, is like a restoration project, adding a lot missing content, including new quests, levels, weapons, items, characters, dialogue, graphics, models, sounds and original music!

I'm sorry I'm just probably being stupid, but how do I download this 10.2 version? There's no download button here, the files section only has up to 10.1 patch there, the patches-scrolls is no different in that regard. I kind of can't wrap my head around it, where should I look for 10.2?

I currently have version 10.0 installed. Can I upgrade to 10.2 and still use my save-files? I don't want to lose my current run.

No, you should finish 10.0 first. The differences are not much and using an imcompatible save very probably will mess the game up!

You can install it over any other patch, provided you start a new game afterwards.

Hi, played after a long time, installed UP 10.2, now Heather mods are garbled. Mesh is there but texture is wrong. How to fix? I noticed the subdirectory Unofficial_Patch has no materials "heather" subdir. That seems to be the issue, but even when creating it and copying the materials in it did not help.
Help?

I don't use any skin mods, but you just need to make sure that the path is correct.

Argh, nevermind, I created a double subdir, heather/heather.. in proper place, works fine now :)

I'll be gone like the stupid fun at your door... Damn, that's the best dialogue option I've ever picked :) Huge thanks for that.

Speaking of which, is there any way to get rid of casting animations as well? I love the plus patch but I hate these animations, plain and simple. Not only do they break the flow of the fighting action, but also create a weird visual glitch in the first person.

If you could add a similar dialogue option, similar to the fan thing, or include some kind of a toggle in game or as an installation checkbox option in future releases, that'd be mighty welcome from where I am standing. If that's technically possible, of course.

Try editing the config.cfg file with any text editor and change 'bind "your key" "vm_discipline"' to 'bind "your key" "vdiscipline_last"'.

Reply Good karma+1 vote

Hmm, it was set to "vdiscipline_last" by default. So I concluded you'd just confused the two values there and so I went ahead and changed it to "vm_discipline." That, unfortunately, had no effect.

Hm, are you playing the basic or the plus patch? Because in plus this should have been vm_discipline! Otherwise it's not as easy as I thought and you are stuck with it...

I'm most definitely playing the plus patch... Say, I have the gog version that comes with UP 10.0 basic, but I installed UP 10.2 plus over it. Maybe that's the reason why it had a basic patch value there, I mean perhaps they were some overwriting issues with the update? I don't know, however, the game seems to run without an issue with the current 10.2 plus installation.

I've just checked the config file in my back up of "original" GOG installation, which is UP 10.0 basic, and yep, it was "vdiscipline_last" there. I'm not sure why updating to 10.2 plus didn't change that value to "vm_discipline." The animations are there, ragardless, though.

Okay, through poking around with the config files I realized that config.cfg is not created untill you've booted up your game at least once and that the config.cfg gets its values from default.cfg. The latter has these lines in it:

//plus controls
bind "MOUSE2" "vm_discipline"

I changed "vm_discipline" to "vdiscipline_last" in there, deleted config.cfg for the game to reload those values and I still ended up with these animations. Yeah, having checked that config.cfg afterwards I confirmed it was set to "vdiscipline_last" there. I guess simple rebinding is not enough here.

Yeah. The only way to remove it would need changing of several system files...

If I knew which... :) In any case if you added a checkbox to choose whether you want the casting animations or not, when installing the plus version of the patch, in future releases, that'd be great. It, of course, is up to you. I would personally mess with the systems files though if I knew how and with which.

I already had this checkbox in previous patch versions but the change went deeper that I knew and caused problems. As I didn't add the casting myself in the first place I removed it again...

So you're saying someone else contribued to the project and realized or rather brought back the casting animations into the game? Does this mean you don't personally know how to undo that change exactly?

Yes, pretty much like this. EntenSchreck from the Prelude mod restored the casting animations and the new disciplines for me and I don't know the code well enough to just disable it. If you don't want the new disciplines you can install the basic patch into an empty folder and copy some files over to get rid of casting animations and them...

I scanned through the unofficial patch folder and I have to admit I don't have any idea which files those would be. Also would a change like that require a new game?

Reply Good karma Bad karma+1 vote

You would need to copy over all disciplinetgt_* files and stats.txt and traiteffects000.txt. I don't think it would require a new game...

Reply Good karma+1 vote

That worked, thanks! However the loss of restored disciplines is most unfortunate. I guess I will have to peruse the code in those .txt files now, if I want to keep the best of the two worlds there. Huge thanks for your help! Any tips for what I should look out for would be great. But thanks regardless! I think I've taken enough of your time already.

I can't really help you there. Maybe you could try comparing the files and removing only all casting references in the plus version while keeping the rest intact...

Hello! I added this mod after several years of failing to finish this game, and started up a new game. This is my first mod that I've used, and it's been making the game significantly better. I wanted to thank all involved for the ongoing work, that fifteen years after this game came out, new things are still being created for it. So thanks!
