Village perimeter rings. They are white by default and dynamically change to the team color when a village is occupied. In this case Yellow.

When you capture the village & you move enough units into the perimeter it will turn to your house color to show that you control the village.

The perimeter starts out as white representing neutral, when you capture the village & move enough units it will change to your side's color.

If the enemy attacks & your unit amount falls under the required amount it will turn white again.

sweet, so you can do raids and knock out peoples resources by killing a squad of men in a village? thats much easier than blowing them up

Well, sort of, you can halt the flow of funds. Although capturing the village is obviously the best way to make sure they lose their income.
