"Where Quake meets reality" is the motto the developers of Urban Terror have adopted. While many mods these days tend to focus on realistic game play, Urban Terror takes a "fun over realism" approach to the FPS arena by keeping the Q3 speed and physics.

Now that 2007 is here many gamers, both old and new in the Urban Terror Community ponder the question, "So, when will we see the new release?" While the question is nothing new and we face it on a daily basis the development team continues to move forward as they work towards a release date.

Now that 2007 is here many gamers, both old and new in the Urban Terror Community ponder the question, "So, when will we see the new release?" While the question is nothing new and we face it on a daily basis the development team continues to move forward as they work towards a release date. An anonymous team source was caught mentioning "feeling good about a release soon." Of course the term, "soon" is relative, but all the assets are nearing completion. The final touches on the codebase will be completed in the coming days and with that we will be looking at a release client for testing.

While the map list is not finalized, there is the possibility some "favorites" and "old school" levels will not be included for a myriad of reasons. One such level is Uptown created by BattleCow. We have been chasing the cow since September and he mentioned having it done in October. Well, here it is now February and we have not received or heard from him. Docks is another original level by BattleCow was updated during the 3.x development cycle with new textures and some new routes. Unfortunately, this level is in dire need of a complete rebuild. The task was given to |NV|S, but in his words, "sexification does not come over night." With that, Docks will not be included in the upcoming release.

Fret not (or cry, you girly man) there are many other levels that will be included and while those levels might not replace the missing levels, there should be enough diversity to keep the community coming back for more. This also means there could be an update to this release, seeing as we have some other odds and ends to get into the game that will not make our schedule for this release (not including any missed bugs...God forbid!)

As for the testing, it has been fast and furious at times, with some down time as the coders, development team members and tje QA team are on the road to release. It looks as if Urban Radio will take to the Internet airwaves next week (17 Feb) if everything goes as planned, not sure if it will be a pre-release "par-teh" or a pre-pre-release. Regardless we will post more information here and on www.URBANTERROR.net..
