Total Chaos is a total conversion mod for Doom 2 that runs on the GZDoom source port. The mod is a survival horror set on a remote island known as Fort Oasis. The island was once run by a community of coal miners which one day suddenly disappeared, leaving behind the abandoned concrete jungle to waste away. Something, clearly, has gone very wrong with this place. Upon your arrival at Fort Oasis, you receive a strange radio transmission. Someone wants to be found.

Posted by on

Today I'm revealing some stuff a friend and I have been working on in sort of secret for the last couple of years. A remaster of Total Chaos is indeed in the works, and is using the Unreal Engine 5.

Here is how it is shaping up!

No announcements for release dates at this time (still a couple years away), however the game will be dropping as its own standalone package.

(I assumed they would use Unity for the porting)
Are you going to port it in UE5, I'm looking forward to the thought of a possible release to Steam.

...I'm waiting for the VR version with motion controls implemented. A world where you have to do everything from maintenance to therapeutic meals by yourself would surely be a great survival experience.

Using Unreal Engine 5 for this one. Not taking VR off the table, but it isn't something I'm pursuing with this version mostly because I don't know how well it will run, but would love to explore VR in this universe at some stage

Is this a port or a full remake? Did it start on Unreal Engine 4 if you've been working on it for a few years already?

Great idea! Awesome mod! But too easy... Need hard mode! Less ammo and resourses balanse.

I suggested non-zero-weight SMG magazines taking inventory slots each, just like pistol clips. Collecting 600+ SMG round without penalty feels kinda cheating.

agreed
it does feel like cheating, same with boxes of 12 gauge and boxes of .357

in the end i was literally STACKED with ammo for all weapons, even before to the central part of the Fort Oasis island to the endgame section

Fantastic news, TC is one of the most awesome DOOM II "mods" I've played during the last three decades, and I had the feeling there was something yet to come - but I did not expect anything that epic. Many thanks to everybody involved in the development of this remaster!

LET'S GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
ALL ABOARD THE HYPE TRAIN!!!!

can't wait for the UE5 remaster to come in! i really loved Total Chaos, both the original and director's cut versions

also would like to see other cut stuff like climbing ladders :
Twitter.com
using a lighter :
Twitter.com
that strange axe

Wadaholic.wordpress.com
and i would love to see the very first few versions of Total Chaos (the one where you were going through a spooky hotel or house with a floating John Romero chasing you)

and also would like to see that multiplayer Total Chaos game revived, the Counter-Strike style buy menu could work (example, starter weapons like the USP or Glock should be the monkey wrench, unavailable weapons or consumables should be the Axe or Revolver and such), while the gameplay could work something like Left 4 Dead where the monsters have to stop the players from reaching the end of a level, or a survival style mode (i remember a file in your ModDB page that combines the idea of a survival mode with Total Chaos, though not handled very well), and i would love to see that G36 rifle from those screenshots return ;)

unless that's it

Awesome!
Please look up our Discord message history to see/recall my suggestions concerning achievements, weapons and bug fixes.

speaking of those fixes, one of my main complaints could be how magnum and SMG ammo takes no space
while by the endgame i was locked and loaded completely, plus some of the items (like Adrenaline, all the compounds, and many others) feel situational and i don't even use them

so in every playthrough i have to play the game terribly and poorly like the first time i played it in order to even use any of those items

also, i would like to see achievements, item balance and bug fixes
and also, when i looked at WADaholic's post mortem in the word press and i was surprised by all the development
2004 version was about exploring a house or hotel while being hunted by John Romero
2008 looked more sci-fi but still captured the same dark gritty grungy look, plus it even had a multiplayer mode with a counter strike style buy menu
2012 looked more found footage
2014 eventually shaped up into the Total Chaos we remember (kind of)

and honestly, i would like to see a multiplayer mode if possible, like with game modes such as surviving waves and buying items, or something similar with left 4 dead needing to get from point a to point b, i mean this is unreal engine 5, and maybe it will be possible

Is this going to be released on steam or something? If so, I'm going to buy the $h!t out of it! Easily a $20 to $30 game.
