That's actually one of Theoden's Royal Guards. And unless you're Grimbold or Gamling (both are royal guard captains), they don't and won't lead an attack, but are more or less behind their king, protecting him at all costs, even if it means death.
grimbold is not a royal guard captain nor is gamling in the books ofc. Grimbold is actually the lord of helms deep and the captain of theodred, gamling is a captain left behind by grimbold in helms deep
