The Russian Front is a total conversion of RTCW, aiming to bring a highly realistic slant to the base game, covering the fighting on the Russian Front 1941-45. The mod will include both an MP game as well as a series of SP missions, reflecting the near-4-years spent in the Red Army by one Misha Novikov. This isn't rabid "special forces" - it is core infantry combat at its most gruelling - the terrifying slaughter that was the Russian Front from the opening of Operation Barbarossa in July 1941, through to the closing scenes in Berlin, almost 4 years later. The mod will, of course, feature the core weaponry used by the German and Soviet forces, plus introducing the other nationalities that fought on the Russian Front.

Yup - the PTRD is quite a beastie... fires a 12.7mm round, with a muzzle velocity of 1,000 m/s. Packs quite a punch :) For the anal amongst us, it hits with about 10 times the impact of a standard 7.62mm sniper round. That would be an "OUCH" ;)

First off, I lied - its a 14.5mm beastie... sorry

Secondly, it weighs in at an indelicate 17.3 Kg (38 lbs) which really doesn't make it too terribly easy to lug around. And it is very long, single-shot, bolt-action. So, unfortunately, rather cumbersome. Its armour penetration capabilities are way out of date too - it might knock a hole in a 1940 light or, if lucky, medium tank - but no chance today.

However, gawd help any poor sod who got in the way of one of its rounds  !
