In the wake of despair left by Stronghold 3, I have decided that it is time for a few good SH2 mods, since this is an area which is sorely lacking. Imperium Condita is a roman modification of Stronghold 2. This mod will include: Better textures and graphics Historical military units New historical music Historical factions Changed game mechanics (i.e. Honor becomes Glory) Different voice acting (eventually) A new campaign New maps And much more on the way. I understand that SH2 is an older game, but it is still loved by many, and it has great bones for modders. This is an experiment to see whether the gaming community is interested in SH2 mods anymore. Feedback is greatly appreciated.
The game is set up to play as the Romans because of the color restrictions. However, the various troop types are available to all factions in the game.
how the "whatever" are you going to realize that much diversity in units with just about 20 useable objects which multiple per faction already used? and some don't even fit in a role of a soldier?
But I really LIKE the Idea. Mainly because I see Awesome factions added
There are about a dozen colors for the troops. Orange, green, L blue, D blue, yellow, pink, red, purple, gray, black, and burgundy. The different colors can be roughly matched up to the factions. (red is rome, green is gaul, purple is macedon, ect.) The other factions replace the extra characters that are not in the campaign. For example, the queen, bishop, and the two jousting banners. Those are "mini" factions that are more for kingmaker mode.
The basic premise is this. The factions are broken down into cultures. Hellenistic-Roman, Middle Eastern, and Barbarian-Steppe. The military units are divvied up among the cultures, so that in the end, they will all have 1 or 2 units specific to each culture, but a handful that are universal. For example, a swordsman will be a legionary, and specific to Rome, while Macemen will be Celtic swordsmen, and can technically be used by Germans, Gauls, Britons and Iberians. Technically, even the Scythians and Carthage could use them. While units such as spear men, archers, and crossbowmen will be universal. (the archers have a more greek look, but this is pure aesthetics. So the ultimate goal is to spread the units around as much as possible. This may seem one sided, as the swordsmen are the very strong, and only used by rome. But they are expensive, and knights are going to be cataphracts, which can be used by all but the barbarians. The unit distribution will all be controlled through custom missions and the new campaign.
I can't wait ._. If I could help something like basic modeling etc. message me.
Define modeling.
I would offer my services as well but though I have the degree in 3d CAD Drafting and looking for someplace for a career in that. I am afraid that my skills would not suffice.
Mostly due to the programs I use like Inventor and Solid Works. I have Maya Lt but lets just say even with two text books I am not anywhere near competent in that style of work to be of help. The skills that you cant get from a book if you understand.
But if you need a working solid model of anything mechanical I'm your man. ;)
Can you edit GR2 files in any of those programs? Granny files are what this game runs on, and it seems like its a very specific file format. There is one thing that I would very much like to modify concerning the models. All it would be is stretching a model to make it longer and wider. Is this possible?
I do not know of that file type. In the morning I will take a look. In Maya Lt I know that I'm rather limited to .fbx .3ds and a few Autodesk file types. But they make conversion programs for this resin. Let me do a little research and I will get back to you.
Sorry just realized that I did not answer your question. I have a very limited knowledge of code but in the files that govern the model, texture, and its animation(if any) there may be a small line that would say something along the line of
<ScaleTransform3D ScaleX="2" ScaleY="0.5" ScaleZ="1" CenterX="0" CenterY="0" CenterZ="0" />
If it runs in C# but there should be a line called "Transform" you could alternatively edit the model but doing it in code is faster ie make one model and have any copy scaled different.
Hope this helps
