Fresh (and great) news !
This wonderful turret is the first of a long awaited serie of custom models that will (at least we hope) lead the mod to finally take off !
Credit for the model and animation goes to SirPsycho, who is really helping us on this particularly difficult side of CoH modding ;)
Textures were made by Ebonhawk.
As you can see, it is fully animated and even has a destructed state !

are DF9 turrets fast-fire like we see in Empire at war? or single shot blasts?
On this article it is said that the turret is able to fire one shot every three seconds : Starwars.wikia.com
As it seems a bit slow, we might tweek it for gameplay needs. However it will have a pretty large area of effect to counter the slow firing (wookiepedia says 8m radius, it's way too large for CoH, but you've got the idea).
Of course, if you have other sources, please share them so we can find the best balance ;)
The canon version can fire semi quickly as seen in Battlefront. I only speak for myself, but I'd prefer it if you stick to canon with this mod as best as possible with maybe a few things here and there from Legends thrown in.
I just believe the more that fits in with the established canon the more attractive the mod will be to Star Wars fans. This obviously doesn't apply to the players who prefer Legends, but there are numerous mods that already follow the Legends universe. Especially with Sins of a Solar Empire and Men of War 2 games.
Despite the vocal anti-canon fans that shout for only Legends material, I will tell you that for every one vocal Legends fan there are around three pro-canon fans, you just don't hear from them as much. Just something to think about.
Well I like Wookiepedia since there is much of the information in it. I'm not a ultra canon Star Wars fan and am far from knowing everything of it, so I take what I can find easly on the internet, which is in many cases canon and original-lore-friendly content ;)
and yes especially for balanced game play. and yes we can refer to Legends or Canons so it can suite the gameplay
