I was watching Battle 360 on Discovery channel about the battle of Guadalcanal. The Big E was the remaining carrier in the Pacific. The Hornet was sunk earlier. The Enterprise was critcal in keeping control of Guadalcanal. Without the air support provided by Enterprise, we wouldn't have been able to keep the Japanese from retaking it.
So my idea is only carriers having large reinforcements of fighters. Cruisers having 1 squadron, Battlecruisers 2, Battleships 2, Dreadnoughts 3 with no reinforcements. This will make protecting those carriers critical to winning. You'd still be able to purchase reinforcements from the space station.
To that end, I've created a large carrier that is bigger than the dreadnought. It will be classed as a Command Carrier. The Command Carrier and the Athena Assault Carrier will provide the majority of the fighters, with the CC providing the majority of the two.
Any comments for or against are welcome.
hmmm in all honesty i think there is enough ships
this one is nice but
its kinda funny looking
i like it but it would seem to me that it doesnt fit the style
that style being that federation ships rely more on firepower
than fighterpower
i am no expert boss
but i must say i love the overall design it is somewhat reminiscent of ships of both the series and movies
and this will freak you out a little it bit of design similariy to the ships from the anime
but i must say that i do
Which Enterprise? The worlds biggest aircraft carrier ,CVN-65, or the WW2 Enterprise, CVN-6 ?
I disagree on a couple of points.
One is having enough ships. In FoC both the Empire & Rebels have 9-10 ships with 5-6 fighters each. Mods being developed by others have that or more for variety. The defining limit is the amount of space on the controlbar. The upgrades, fighters, ships & heros are what it will contain but since I won't have as many different fighters as the originals allows me some leeway. Plus balancing could possibly eliminate some as well create new ones needed.
Two is I don't know of any style that has been proven that the Federation relies on firepower over fighters or vice versa. The movies, book, & series only covers it from the perspective of the MI, which we can, for the most part, bypass since we aren't doing ground battles. Plus as has been proven in our own world history, air, or in terms of this mod, space superiority with small, hard to hit fighters, would be critical to any victory.
As far as the ship design, it does stray some from the looks of the rest. I had just watched that Battle360 and the flat-top look definately influenced my idea. I might try again on the design but, at least for now, I will continue the direction of a large carrier.
Thanks for response, I need stuff like that.
ok
plus with the information that i could gather
1....2....3...4........maybe five fighters are possible
im gonna gather screens of the ships and add them to my ship archive
and you provide an excellent point
but one part of the series does focus on space combat
in fact i just got an idea for the first bug ship to be done
this is going to take a while for me to properly relay the idea
also if you dont know yet boss in the concept section of the forum i gots a picture of what i thinks is a skinny ship
CV-6 from WW2. It was decommissioned in 1947 and CVN-65 wasn't commissioned until 1961 and will stay in service until the mid 20's i believe. The N stands for Nuclear and CV-6 was steam turbine.
dont get me wrong boss i love the star-class engine type
but it has been overused and some of the series ships are lacking brothers
maybe athena type engines
not an expert boss just the guy that comes up with crazy ideas
I agree, that's why I have several with round engines. As far as Athena's engines, I really don't like them but they were canon, so I had to use them on that one ship. I'll play around with the design some, see what comes out. I do alot of design as I go so no telling what something will look like when I'm finished. lol
i dont really like the athenas either
I changed the carrier a bit but I'm thinking of scrapping the design and starting from scratch. I like it but I'm not positive it fits in.
its a good effort and a cool looking ship
save this design it might prve usefull later
Since no-one else has commented yay or nay on this ship design, it has officially been scrapped, as has my idea of having a command carrier as a strategic unit.
