Description

Relations with the Klingon Empire had deteriorated to a point of war in the mid 2280's, and with Starfleet unprepared for a open conflict, the Federation council authorised Starfleet to start production on several combat orientated designs. The Ulysses was the largest and most powerful of these new designs, using tested technology rather than the new technology from the yet unproven Excelsior class. This was done to cut construction costs and reduce the time required to get the new classes into service. The Ulysses unlike previous designs had an unparalleled amount of torpedo launchers, triple phasers emitters and enough space to house marines and other ground forces.
