SPV3 is a total overhaul of the original Halo, adding new weapons, vehicles, enemies, features, graphics, extended levels, new levels, new story terminals and much much more. Featuring a total playtime of over 24 hours on Heroic and Legendary difficulties, SPV3 is the largest and most feature rich Halo campaign to date. And to top it off, it is built with gameplay as a focus first and foremost, meant to expand on yet capture what made Halo Combat Evolved one of the best first person shooters of all time.
The SPV3.3 update to Halo CE brings a huge amount of new features to the acclaimed mod. Additions include Firefight, 15 new skulls to modify campaign missions, new weapons, armor and other customization options, new graphics features like ray-traced SSR, and a new MCC validation system, which makes it incredibly easy to install if you own Halo CE Anniversary for the Master Chief Collection.
**The 4th update to SPV3.3 is here! This release is coming in a little hot, so if you run into issues we strongly encourage you to join our Discord.**
The install process for this can't be easier. Simply download the zip file, run spv3.exe and hit install. SPV3 will look to see if you have a legal copy of Halo PC, Halo Custom Edition, or if you have Halo CE Anniversary installed via steam in it's default location. If any of these are true, then you will be prompted to install the game to your documents folder. Do not set this to overwrite SPV3.2, just simply delete or rename it.
If those are not true, you can either install Halo Custom Edition, direct the installer to your steam.exe or steam shortcut, or just launch MCC with CEA installed if you have it via windows store, and hit check processes. The game will then proceed to install. SPV3 does not overwrite any files in Halo PC, Custom Edition, or MCC. It is its own stand alone Custom Edition fork.
Once installed, it will prompt you to install Open Sauce (and engine extension for Halo CE) so install that to your Halo SPV3 folder located in Documents/My Games.
Finally, you'll be prompted to open the launcher. From there **it is imperative you check the Optimization Guide** as windows will most likely limit the GPU power as it thinks Halo is not a game and your performance will be terrible. Follow the instructions there, and you are good to go.
Be sure to check out the new customization features, especially the new hints system for first time players and/or streamers! As always, we suggest any new player or someone who has not played the mod in a while to start at the beginning, and play on heroic for their first playthrough, although the mod is designed and tuned for Legendary.
**This update is coming in a little hotter than we'd like, and there are some small updates that will be coming over the next few days. In the meantime be mindful that**
*-In order to set a custom resolution in the launcher, both width and height needs to be checked, AND V-Sync*
*-Mouse acceleration has been fixed, but controllers to some may feel like their sensitivity is too high. The way this ancient game deals with input is always 2 steps forward with one leg when we make a change and 2 steps back with the other.*
*-On the subject of controllers, if you play with one (and we suggest you do) you will want to plug it in, load the game, go to settings, and controllers. You controller should show up, and then just add it to the profile, save, exit and reload the game. You will now be configured to use the controller.*
*-A literal 11th hour bug showed up (like literally showed up the hour we were packing the mod) for Lumoria Landfall, and if you use every weapon on the map you may get a crash near the end. Not to worry, we are working on a fix which will be delivered via auto update and if you crash, just reload the game via launcher and hit continue to resume your playthrough. We debated delaying, it just made no sense to keep everyone waiting while it takes us the day or so to completely verify the bug is fixed. What is basically happening is that the game eventually chokes on model data being added to the render, which is why picking up all the weapons and the last model being loaded results in the crash.*
With all that said, enjoy, have fun, and stay tuned. We have a lot of neat things in the pipeline for you guys including details on our next project, SPV3.4: Halo Legacies which will see the end of updates to the campaigns and instead will have you on an open world adventure on Installation 03.
