"Southern Ming Elegy - Total War" is a Chinese mod based on the Medieval 2 Total War engine. This mod is created by the BeiLai mod group and focuses on the Southern Ming Dynasty. The Southern Ming period from 1644-1662 refers to the period of time after the Ming Dynasty's capital Beijing fell, where various members of the Ming imperial family established their own governments in the south. This period lasted for 18 years. In 1644, Li Zicheng's rebel army captured Beijing, and the Chongzhen Emperor Zhu Youjian committed suicide in Meishan (a small hill in present-day Jingshan Park). Soon after, the Qing army entered the pass, and most of the Ming imperial family members and officials fled to the south. At this time, the areas south of the Huai River were still nominally under Ming rule. The Southern Ming, however was bogged down by factional infighting, and thus could not effectively resist the Qing army. This mod contains many versions of the plot and the starting time is 1658 CE.
